Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Re: John Jordan born 1816 in Milford, Pembroke

Hi Carol.  I am certain the marriage you found for Anne Jorden to Daniel Brown is the right one. Have you seen the entry for Daniel on welshmariners.org.uk.
William Lachlan Jordan only appears on one UK census, 1861, when he was living in Kent. He only states that he was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, but does not give a place.
He must certainly have had contact with the daughter of Richard and Margaret, Eliza born 1811, as Eliza named one of her children Hatton Lloyd, and the Hatton name comes from The Bastone family, William L. Jordan's wifes family.
I have found Daniel Brown buried 7 Jan 1841 at Steynton. Wife Anne buried 23 December 1828, also at Steynton. Only one child found so far, Margaret Phillips Brown, bapt3 Feb 1791 at Steynton.

Hi Carol
A lot of my Jordan material I found in various Jordan family files at Haverfordwest Library in 1987. Various trees etc deposited over the years by a number of people, and much without dates etc. As they were from the Jordan and Phillips family I have accepted the info as "reasonably accurate".
Children of David Jordan and Margaret Phillips
1. Margaret    married George Edwards
2. Owen    buried Llanstadwell  1774
3. Anne   married David Brown of Scotland
4. Eleanor  buried Llanstadwell  1774
5. Dorothy  married 7 Apr 1801, at Llanstadell, to Joseph Clare, Mariner
6. Elizabeth  buried Llanstadwell  1772
7. Richard   1774-1828  father of William Lachlan Jordan
8. Rebecca  baptised 16 June 1774 at Llanstadwell.
I have been through any available parish records for Llanstadwell, Burton, Llangwm, Steynton and all surrounding parishes - very hit and miss.
John

We have two Scottish references . One of Richard Jordans sisters, Anne, married a David Brown, described as "of Scotland".
In a letter from William to the government here, he describes how he left Inverness to go to London so as to emigrate. Thats it I'm  afraid. Agree that the name Lachlan is very Scottish and not a name you would normally associate with Wales. After 35 years searching im just hoping that Ancestry or the likes will digitise some obscure records and there he will be 😊😆
Regards John

Hi  I am grt-grt-grandson of William Lachlan Jordan and have run out of places to look for his baptism. Really interested to see the Scurlock DNA matches with his descendants. William certainly had lots of contact with his welsh relatives and returned there a few times.
You have been in contact with my sister Helen.
Am convinced that William is illegitimate. We know he was living in Inverness Scotland shortly before he came out to Tasmania in 1831.
Always thought his mothers name could be Eliza.  William named his first son William Henry Richard Jordan. His father in law was Henry,  and his father was Richard. If you assume he used the same premise on his his first daughter - Charlotte Eliza Jordan, then as his mother in law was Charlotte it would make sense that Williams mother was Eliza.
Are there any Eliza Scurlocks that might fit in here?
Another long shot but given we all seem to have exhausted every other possibke source then its all we have.
Only other possible source may be that as William Lachlan Jordan was a Master Tailor, and thus one would assume he was apprenticed at some point, and quite often these docs include a baptism record.
The DNA link is a vital clue here  and certainly ties William to the Scurlocks - but how?

Either my sister or myself from down here in Tasmania contacted posted here some years ago. We are descended from WillIam Lachlan Jordan, one of four  children of Richard Jordan.  Have quite a bit of info on --our search for his baptism which we cannot find. Definately not daughter of Margaret.

Had a look at Registrar records of death.
John Dennis, age 53, Labourer.  Died from strangulated hernia.
Informant was Thomas Laskey of "Kirkdale" a property just north of Campbell Town, Tasmania.
Laskey was himself a former convict.
Sorry but no other details given. While the age difference is an issue, perhaps Laskey did not not know enough about him.  Can find no other details for John Dennis.
Thanks for the earlier bio details on John.

Have found an index entry for a death
John Dennis, died 2 May 1869 in District of Morven (near to Campbell Town), Tas. (VDL)
Age is given as 53 which doesn't quite fit your man, but they are not always accurate, depends on the informant.
In next few days I will have a look at original register entry.

Have had a look at the Convict Indent for John Dennis.
The 1847 entry appears to be a record of his attending a muster.
The entry for 24 Feb 1863 is the date he was granted his "Certificate of Freedom". The place abbreviation of "C. Town" probably relates to Campbelltown, but will follow this up.

No problems.
As part of my research I am identifying every person who sailed on the Sarah, and have researched all the convicts for the 1837 voyage. I will check my database and see what I can dig up.
