We would love to find out more about the people who use the site and the areas that you are researching.

Please let us know which the main area of research for you.

Hi, I am new to this and puzzled by the available choice of countries.   I want to post 2 surnames I am researching in Barbados, and none of the choices fit.  I can't just type in the country name.  This is not like other sites with a full list of countries.  Now what??

re our DICKINSON family.   Thanks for your reply Victoria!  Would appreciate it if you're not sure if your relative  did or did not link this family to her family, if you could check please.  We so would love to be in touch with any descendants or find out more about what happened to John and Margaret Dickinson.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for all your help.

I found record of marriage that I think was this couple but it would have made them age approx 13.
June Q 1862. 8d 292 Manchester Cathedral

John Dickinson    Elizabeth Lyons.

I found family 1871 Liverpool RG10 3827 Folio 54

Boarding  with Pearce family. 53 Lancaster Street Kirkdale

John Dickinson m  22 Carter
Elizabeth Dickinson 26
John E Dickinson 7       All born Manchester

1881 Census RG11 3605 Folio 148

56 Sawney Pope Street Liverpool

Elizabeth Dickinson Head W 34 Bottling Ser N K ( cellarwoman)
John Dickinson Son 16 Gen Labourer
Margaret Dickinson  Daur 10
William Dickinson Son 7
Elizabeth Dickinson Daur 5  All born Salford.

I found two records of death for John Dickinson
1879 Age 23 Dec Q West Derby 8b 261
1877 Age 24 June Q West Derby 8b 257.

If Elizabeth the mother died 1886 then as you say the children would have been sent to the workhouse.
I would be interested in records you found for John, Elizabeth, and Margaret.
Thank you again for your help.

Victoria

I would like to find out if "Victoria" may be a descendant of this family?  My husband's grandmother was Elizabeth Dickinson.  She and her brother William were sent to Ontario Canada as Home Children by the Catholic Church in 1887.  Your assumption was correct that they (E and W) were sent to the Workhouse in 1886, and from there transferred to the training school for about a year.  Their sibs were Margaret Ann and John, but they never knew what became of them.  We do not have the parents' names, only that they were both dead, father in a work accident.  There are many descendants in Canada. Hope to hear back from you.
