One Name Studies: H to M / King Spooner connection
« on: Wednesday 18 January 23 15:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, there seem to be several contributors on this Forum who are descended from Thomas and Edgar King Spooner. I'm thinking of organising a Zoom meeting for those with an interest in them.  Suggestions for discussion include the progress we have made, identifying what issues are outstanding and perhaps agreeing who is going to do what going forward, to avoid duplicating effort.

I'm descended from Thomas' son, Augustine John King Spooner, born in 1886, Whitechapel.

If you'd like to be involved in the Zoom, please message me or jbml with your contact details and I'll set something up. Thanks!

Wow, thank you so much. I wasn't aware of those notices but have looked them up now. That kind of information gives a fascinating glimpse into our ancestors lives - thanks again

Searching in England but have traced one ancestor (Johan Torbjorn Ramstedt) from Gothenburg, Sweden. He was a Master Mariner and settled in Gloucester (marrying there in 1851). Will need to brush up on my Swedish before tracing his line back much further :)

Also have Irish ancestors who need following up, including Harney's from Roscommon.

He's been an absolute NIGHTMARE to figure out ... but I'm nearly there now. All I'm missing is his baptism, his death, and a plausible explanation for the change from Spooner to King, with his son becoming King Spooner (and, doubtless, heaving a great sigh of relief as he dropped the Escott Scott). But ... as with everything else about him ... the baptism and death are proving elusive  ::)

I know what you mean about tracking Edgar down - I've had similar difficulties! Unfortunately I can't offer anymore info other than you have already, though there is an (unsubstantiated) family story on my branch about King/Spooner. Namely, that following normal conventions the family name should have been King but was dropped for Spooner due to a second marriage somewhere along the line. This probably adds to the confusion rather than helps but thought it might be of interest!
