Dublin / John Adair bap. 1815 St.Luke COI
« on: Monday 22 November 21 04:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have found John Adair b. 17/10/1815, bap.10/12/1815 St.Luke COI in the Coombe. Parents may be John & Ann (from New Row), married 1815 same church.  John may have married a Mary Ann ?  Does anybody out there have anything at all on this John?  He seems to have vanished but I am sure someone out there knows something, as they say in the best detective shows.  kenvic

Hi Norah. I am not sure whether you are looking to trace your Armitage connections in Canada, Ireland or both.  For Ireland I have recently posted on Roots Chat a pdf file on the Armitage family in Tipperary which includes all your group from Joseph to Luke etc.  If you can't find it send me a PM and I will send it to you.  Best of luck.  kenvic

Maggsie.  Thank you for your interest.  I love Internment as usually it sorts out the nitty gritty of which William or Which Frannie etc so often.  Sadly this time there does seem to be a problem. Firstly there does seem to have been at least three and maybe four John & Frances (Fanny / Frannie) Armitage.  I have the deaths of John of Uskane house and Fanny in 1845/1851 not 1945/51.  This is the couple who married in 1826.  Or maybe not. All is not as clear as it may seem.  Roots and Ancestry appear to have the children from at least two of the families hopelessly mixed.  One couple went to the U.S. another stayed home.  I guess if we did deep enough we will sort it especially with help from others like you.  I once lived in Ireland, way, way back and while my family is mainly from Offaly I have visited Cloughjordan.  I like it a lot.  Cheers, kenvic

Offaly (Kings) / Re: Sarah Farrel b.abt 1786

Hi.  I had considered that but I reason that Charles Farrell would have filled out the census or at least answered for the household.  The problem with 'Heirs' is the spelling.  A relative of Sarah's family Thomas Farrell lived next door at a townland called Marymount and he lists a 'Hines'.  This is also often spelt Hynes and there many other varieties.  There are so many by this name in Ireland that I gave up any hope of tracing them.  We, that is my other family researchers and me, believe that Charles was Sarah's son - nephew being quite well used to cover up out of wedlock births.  Charles was actually two years older than the age on the census so probably a bit of a cover up as Sarah would only have been 15 at conception time.  Charles who is my 3 x g.father has a birth certificate that lists only his father, Thomas Dillon, no mother while all of Thomas' other children have a mother, Jane.  It seems he took responsibility for Charles.  How Thomas came to seduce the young Sarah is speculative but he then obviously married her off to Charles Farrell.  I am sure they lived happily ever after.  I have gone down many avenues over the years only to find dead ends so putting this out there is probably the last chance option.  I really do enjoy chasing down these little mysteries. Cheers. kenvic

Offaly (Kings) / Sarah Farrel b.abt 1786

Seeking the maiden name of Sarah Farrell b. abt 1786 m. to Charles Farrell of Ballygaddy, Kings Co. The 1821 census says mother-in-law (of Charles ?) is Catherine Colesworth but this does not appear to be an Irish name.  I have found only one other person by that name in Ireland but many years later and it does not appear on the Irish name lists.  Could it be something like Oldsworth?  Or maybe Catherine is not Sarah's mother.  I think Sarah could be mother of Charles Dillon in the same household.  If a Farrell descendant can throw a light on this it would be much appreciated by hundreds of Dillon descendants.  kenvic

KaParcero.  Hi again.  I am a bit confused.  I see in a much earlier post you are in U.S.A.  Now you mention Aust.  Which is which?  It is a very mobile world.   kenvic

Hi.  Yes it took some time, abt. 20 years, and built up slowly as more and more 'Armitage' revealed themselves. It is impossible to know if we are connected in any way.  What is interesting that your family line has kept the name Armitage.  Ours has moved sideways so many times I doubt that there is much of their dna left.  The other bit of interest is that my family is also Aussie (Qld.) although I have not lived there for many years.  If you look undfer the header for my 'tree' at the top (in red) you will see where the info. came from.  You can also add 'The National Archives Ireland' to that list.  Lots of good stuff if you know how to navigate your way around these sites.  If you get stuck post here again and I will send you a PM.  Best of luck, kenvic

Dublin / Re: James Doyle b.1806
« on: Saturday 13 November 21 22:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Heywood.  Thank you for your interest.  I do think the Kennedy who contacted me via another party will have to start doing a bit of their own work on this.  There is, as I explained, a dubious dna connection with my family seems to exist yet of 3 people who have taken their dna tests only one shows a link.  My family is Dillon/Adair/White on the Irish side and they were dedicated COI.  The Doyles are RC.  Of course there is always the possibility of hanky panky way back when. There is also one Scottish link, Cameron, and I have encouraged the Kennedy to persue that too.  Unfortunately some people seem to want others to do their searching for them  Just as you have done.  I am sure they appreciate it but I will now let the Kennedy do the hard yards. Cheers kenvic
