Ireland / WWII Northern Ireland Ration Books
« on: Friday 13 December 13 02:46 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning,
Can anyone understand the notations under "Postings" on the Ration Book Application form 1939.  I have a copy from PRONI which lists 5 family members including my Grandfather.  He was a marine engineer, recently returned from working in USA and was particularly difficult to pin down and I wonder if any of the notations against his name may give me some clues -- apart from natural curiousity.  For example :

GB/M 6/9/46(the last will be a date)
BTA    6/9/46
UCH   5/10/46
SLD    11/11/46
UCH   27/2/47

Others of interest are -
L(UCH)
G.B.R.  Sept 40
N.R.110
NHA
NXH   (or possibly WXN)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be delighted to hear from them........Many thanks,
Halfkiwi

Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs T to Z / WILLIAMS, Harriet birth 1891
« on: Monday 24 January 11 09:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have the birth certificate of --

HARRIET WILLIAMS, b. 10 October 1891 in West Derby, Lancashire
Father was John Williams, Licensed Victualler
Mother was Margaret Williams, formerly Kinley
Address is 11 Stuart Road, Walton

(I was researching my grandmother (Harriet Williams) but her father's name was Samuel - I've now found the 'right' family in the 1911 Census and their address was the same one she got married from in 1918)  ;D.
Anyone interested, just let me know.

Good morning,

I've just searched the 1911 Census & got '2 for the price of 1' as I found 2 family members listed at 75-77-79 Crouch Hall Road, Crouch End, London

It appears to be a store of some sort with 20 shop assistants listed along with 2 cashiers, 7 clerks, 6 domestic servants & 1 housekeeper (all female).   Or perhaps it was some sort of boarding establishment for young working ladies.

My 'satiable curiousity has gotten the better of me, so does anyone know what this establishment was,  or where I could look to find out?

Thanks, in hope,
Halfkiwi

Hi David,
The Archer/Follis marriage was one of many sent to me as possible connections - unfortunately, I've not been able to find any connection or mention of an Archer in the family (so far).  If I do, I'll certainly let you know.
Meanwhile, have you looked at the NEW Mormon website which they are running as a pilot, as it has info on the bmd registrations for Ireland.  You'll find it at

It's worth a look.
Cheers, and good luck,
Hilary

Hi Troods - and many thanks for your help.  Without going over the top, I think it is very likely that this is my missing rellie, who would have been c.26years old at the time.  I'll try to find a bit more on assisted passages to Australia around that time.
Again, many thanks for your help.
Cheers, Half Kiwi

Australia / Tasmania - Tamar Valley Fruit Growers
« on: Saturday 04 July 09 11:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to track down Amy Hilda MURR b.1892 in Edmonton, London.  She appears in the 1901 UK Census.  I've been told that she married, had a son and daughter and moved to Launceston Tasmania where her husband was Secretary of the Tamar Valley Fruit Growers' Association c. 1935, (sorry, no name for husband, and I don't know if she married before or after moving to Tasmania).
I would like to try and track down the records of the association or perhaps someone could point me in the right direction to do further digging.
Many thanks,
Half Kiwi
