Hi Jayson, many thanks for the information. I am aware of this book but unfortunately I live too far away to make good use of the library in  Crewe any time soon! However that remains an option for me to explore if I am unable to find any further information in the next week or so. Regards, Ter1

Cheshire / Lindop Family

I am wondering whether the Ralph Lindop who married a Sarah Brockley at Barthomley St Bertoline by license on 7/5/1787, is in any way related to the Richard Lindop born 2/3/1778 in Haslington? Richard's parents were also a Richard and Sarah . Richard (1778) subsequently married an Elizabeth Williams on the 19/2/1810 in Coppenhall.

Hi Jean, Many thanks for the information. I have recorded this information previously and in fact the William(s) you have listed are one and the same person.I believe he remarried. Both marriages appear to have taken place in Warmingham but unfortunately I have been unable to find a son William for any of them. I will need to double check to make absolutely sure as the second date would fit!

Hello again Peter, I think you have helped me sort this one out? Assuming that the death certificate info is not entirely correct as to William's correct age and we go with the Census stats, I am more convinced now, having seen your details on William's remarriage and Elizabeth's death, that the William and Elizabeth I had thought were his parents are the most likely ones. In support of this I have info on William's (1814-15/16) siblings which I researched from the Bishops records for Coppenhall.
William and Elizabeth had:-
William 1815
Thomas Aug 3rd 1817
Peter Jan 27th 1820
John April 19th 1822
James April 17th 1825

If it is the same William who then married Margaret as you have indicated then I have identified from the same records
Ann 3rd Aug 1834
Joseph june 1838
These certainly tie in with the Census info you have detailed.
If this is so then I believe I have been able to identify his Grandparents as William Brockley and Mary Bebbington married on 11th May 1771 again in Coppenhall records?
Thank you for your advice and assistance. I'm sure I will be asking for your help again!

Hi Peter, and many thanks for the prompt reply. William was born on the 21st march and christened on April 30th, 1815 in Leighton Green according to the Bishops records for Coppenhall.
The 1841 census records his age as 25 which suggests he was born even as late as 1816. The 1851 census records him as being 36 ,thus making 1815 the birthyear.
His son Peter, my Great grandfather, registered his death as 66 yrs, thus my problem.
His marriage was witnessed by a Charles Ashley and John Briscall and there apppears to be no lead there!
Perhaps I should try and access his parentage through his siblings?
I must also review the 1841 census details again to see if I can make the connection there as you suggest? Should I be looking for a 'Brockley' living as a head of household in the same area, aged about 50yrs, as a possible lead as I really do not have strong information on possible Christian names other than William, Samuel, Thomas, John and Joseph as regular family names as a guide? Many thanks again, Ter

Hi Chris, I am trying to confirm the parentage of William Brockley who married Sarah Latham in Minshull on the 29th Dec 1836. He was born in Leighton nr Crewe, according to the Census stats 1813-1815 ,depending upon which year you use! However, there is some difficulty about this because his birth certificate details indicate that he was born in 1812.(He died in 1878 in Holywell, Flints aged 66 yrs) Consequently ,on searching  some of the parish registers for his likely parents, I'm having some problems in identifying likely parents. I have discovered, for example, that a William Brockley  married Elizabeth Barrow  in the parish of Nantwich on the 19th January 1814 and that a son William was born to William and Elizabeth Brockley in Leighton Green ,Coppenhall on the 21st March 1815,probably the same William and Elizabeth mentioned earlier. Clearly, my concerns arise from the earlier birthdate of 1812 suggested by the death certificate and I am wondering whether you would be able to identify from your information source other likely marriages in neighbouring parishes around the 1810-15 period which might help clarify the situation. It is also possible that William's grandparents were William Brockley and Mary Bebbington who married in Coppenhall Parish on 11th May 1771. I would be extremely grateful if you could help me in any way. Regards Ter

I am struggling to confirm the parentage of William Brockley born around 1813-1815 according to Census returns but 1812 according to details from his death certificate. He was born in Leighton nr Crewe and later married a Sarah latham in 1836. I have found information of a marriage between a William Brockley and  Elizabeth Barrow in the Bishop's records (Nantwich) ref MF 264/41  No 37 CRO  for 19/01/1814 and subsequently the birth of a son William  to William and Elizabeth Brockley on 21st March 1815 at Leighton green,(MF 35/2 Coppenhall No61) However I am now uncertain whether this is possible because of the date extrapolated from the Death certificate.? Is anyone able to help?

I am trying to trace the father of William Brockley born in Leighton around 1814. The problem is that Census information 1841 thru'1871 list his birth date as either 1814 or 1815. His death certificate ,however,(he died in 1878) listed his age as 66 making his birth year 1812? Consequently ,I'm having difficulty in identifying his father and to date have checked out some local Nantwich Parish church records (eg Coppenhall, Minshull Vernon, Haslington) seeking the birth of a William Brockley in 1814. I have found a record for the birth of a William to a William Brockley (father) and Elizabeth Barrow (that was) who married in 1814. Clearly, I am unsure whether these are indeed the parents of William . Incidentally, the William (1812 or 1814) married a Sarah Latham in 1836. If anyone is happening to be checking the same Parish records or those of neighbouring parishes, I would be very grateful if they could keep an eye out for likely fathers of William. Many thanks.
