Hello everyone! My name is Gina Fashioni - it should be Fascione but was changed way back in time to make it easier to spell and pronounce. My Gt Grandfather was Benedetto Fascione he came to Southport in the 1800s and was an ice cream man. My Grandad was Joe Fashioni. An Italian man used to visit him called Frank King, Grandad used to say that wasn't his real name but that it was "a long story" - which we never got to know. The child of Frank King (Fasano) who was adopted appears to have lived in Alma Road, Southport which is 2 streets away from where my family lived in Fernley Road. It all seems very mysterious! And now I have heard that Frank King (Fasano's) Grandad or Gt Grandad was called Fortunato - which was Benedetto's fathers name.

Isle of Man / Italian POW Camp - Isle of Man
« on: Friday 25 October 13 10:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
I am trying to find more information about my uncle Dario Valentini. He was interned at a POW
in the Isle of Man with his father. As fate would have it, my father's brother, Sam Fascione was a guard at the camp. Apparently the idea of using English born Italians to guard the Italian prisoners was because it was thought that they would not trouble each other! It worked because my Uncle Sam made friends with Dario and when he was released he came to Southport and married Sam's sister. my Auntie Mary! I just wonder if anyone knows anything about the camps in those days.
Gina Fascione.
