Thank you so much Lisa, that is just great you have found out all that info.
He could have come back to NZ, my grandmother never knew her father, she grew up in an orphanage and was told both her parents had died, she was told that her father was an engine driver.
Charles Barnes was born London, England 1859 his parents were Henry Barnes & Mary Hammond they arrived in New Zealand 1865. He also had brothers Henry, John & Frank and a sister Alice Mary married to David Wright. The names are all relevant his brothers and his father also were Railway workers.
Alice Hagey (nee Browning) not able to find her first marriage or her death maybe she married again after Charles.
Lots of questions and lots more research to do.
Thank you again

Thank you so much for the information, so grateful, it looks as though this Charles Alfred Barnes could
be my great grandfather.
On the death information on familysearch it has his father as Albert (his father Henry Barnes and mother Mary Hammond) only as good as information given I guess.
The wife Alice Hagey or Kagey not able to find a birth for her in Iowa or her first marriage, her parents being Archer M. Browning and Martha Ann Griffin can anyone help please.
Thank you

Happy New Year Everyone
Can some kind person help? looking for my great grandfather left New Zealand June 1911 on board the ship 'Maitai' from Wellington, New Zealand to Los Angeles, California arrived July 1911.
His Occupation was either a Train Diver or Train Engineer.
I found a marriage (ancestry.com) for him to Alice Hagey or (Kagey) 17 March 1914 (birth Place and parents match) Vancouver, Clarke, Washington, USA.
In a newspaper back in New Zealand was a notice of his death Feb 1920 could have been California or Washington.
Thank you
