Many thanks Susan for the time you must have spent on this.
Your effort is greatly appreciated

OK, Understand.

Would it be presumptuous to ask for a search on just William SMITH?

Will understand if not possible.
Thanks anyway, Dave

Thanks for that, probably means that the elder William had died before then.

Does you reply mean that the younger William was not found at all, or just not found with his father?

If it helps, in later censuses, the younger William was consistently recorded as being born in Pershore in 1837, as :-

William SMITH in 1851
William Henry SMITH in 1861 & 1881
William Hy SMITH in 1871
William H SMITH in 1891

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / 1841 census - William SMITH (publican) in Pershore
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 19:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me with 1841 census information for William SMITH.
I do not know when/where he was born, but I believe he was the publican of the White Hart Inn on Newland Street in Pershore at that time.

If it helps, he had a son William Henry SMITH born about 1836/1837 in Pershore, who should be recorded as being 4 years old.

Thanks, Dave

You know, sometimes the obvious eludes you.

Can anyone help me with the date and female surname for the
marriage of John Robert Urry and Ann Grace ?.

Ann Grace apears as John's wife in the 1851 & 1861 census,
with a birth year of about 1809, St George, Hanover Square.
He was born in March 1806 in Whippingham/Newport, Isle of Wight.

I know of just 3 children:-
Robert born about 1834 in Westminster, Emma 1837 and John David 1840,
so the marriage was before 1834.
Were there were other children before Robert?

Thanks to anyone who can help.
Regards to you all,
Dave

Thanks to you all for the replies.

I should perhaps point out that the image in the first reply of this thread (from me) is clickable if you want to see the MIC in detail.

Maybe the MIC was issued just to contain the SWB, but other sources indicate that a different form was normally used. http://www.1914-1918.net/mics.htm

Surely the fact that none of the "standard" medals were awarded means he never went overseas?

Verbal family history has it that he was either executed or imprisoned for going AWOL. He married in June 1915, on license, and the story goes that he went AWOL the following year to see his son. However, as the MIC/SWB was issued, it seems unlikely to me that he was executed. There's not a lot more I can add, other than it is known his wife brought up her son alone. So maybe he was killed, or just deserted her.
