I remember Bysshe Court house well.
A white gate and fencing led from the lane up a short drive lined with apple trees.
It was an imposing but gloomy building surrounded by high pine trees. A few steps led into medium sized rooms with high ceilings.
I always understood it was built by Percy Bysshe Shelley but never researched it (there is another Bysshe Court built by Shelley of similar construction but I forget where.)
It was not lived in for many years but used by Pickfords for storage. Demolished in early 1950s all that remained was a forlorn water pipe sticking out of the ground.

The Homestead was farmed by tenant farmer Fred Baker (not forgetting Beardy the shire horse for harvest and hay making.)
The other tenants were the Pittaways and the Hartles

The radio for the weather and The Archers was run by accumulator and lighting by candle.
Horley cattle market was a must for local farmers.
