Hi

Just read your post now. Many large towns such as Listowel have historical societies. There is usually a local person who is a historian and records people and deeds over the years. Unfortunately I have no connection with that area, but I am guessing that if you were to write to them c/o of the parish priest of the local church in Listowel, or write to him directly, you could get some information.  Good luck with the search

Hi CC

The best of  luck with that. By the way would you know where if at all possible, could I get my hands on a detailed map of Dolphins Barn Lane. Any Dolphinsbarners reading this will remember it as the Hollow. When I was a small child there were lots of houses and little streets there. The remainder of it that went to Herberton bridge was set out in allotments. All the local men had plots there, including my dad. But about 1950 or 51 Dublin Corporation purchased the houses and knocked them all down. In their place they built flats. My grandmother lived with her aunt in Dolphins Barn Street, but her father lived with his second wife and family in 22 Dolphins Barn Lane. I would like to see where number 22 was located.  Any ideas would be welcome.

thanks
Cam

I phoned them up one day and got a very nice helpful girl on the line. But that was a number of years ago, she may not be there now. But I think it is worth a try. Maybe you could find out who the parish priest is. I am guessing that the Archbishop's office could tell you that on the phone. If you could get his name and address you could drop him a letter.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Hi

I don't know the up-to-date situation re your query but if it is of any help, St James's was the parish for Basin Lane, Kilmainham and Dolphins Barn. My gran was born in Kilmainham in 1867, I contacted the parish office in St James's and they gave me details of her entire family baptisms.

Am trying to research my family from the above area. Names include Winters, Shannon, Keating and Quigley.
I believe that the majority of their time they would have come under St Catherines in Meath Street.

Does any one know if their records are anywhere else other than with the parish or at the Dublin Diocesan Archives? ( Depending on year documented).

Have been to the Irish Life centre re records but to no avail.

Also does anyone know that if you were to look through prison registers would there be any more detail available to you other than that recorded by the LDS on their website.
Thank you.
