FH Documents and Artefacts / Re: Coroner's Report
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Following an inquest, there is no such thing as a "coroner's report", in the sense of a structured narrative setting out what happened.
Under the Home Office Circular 250/1967, a schedule of destruction of coroners records is laid down. While they are within the definition of public records and open to the public after 75 years many will not have survived those 75 years. Once 15 years old the records can be weeded,' that is destroyed or sampled by the individual coroner concerned.
See http://www.kcl.ac.uk/depsta/law/research/coroners/records.html about coroner's records
A newspaper report is the best bet.

I suppose it was too much to hope for  :)! Thanks for the prompt response anyway.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to access  a coroner's report from 1920 and if so, how? The death occurred in Lancashire.

Thanks

Hi Fiona

My partner is descended from William Shaw, b. 1854, and I have just today traced back a couple of generations to Richard. Just did a Google search and very excited to have found this post!

Would love to exchange information.

Hoping someone can help me with tracing the birth and parents of James Pool, born in Annan, Scotland,  and his wife Eliza Louden/Loudon (previously married to Joseph Thompson). According to census records they were born c.1806 and the family were in Aspatria, Cumberland from the 1841 census onwards. Their occupations were clogger and clog and pattern maker.

Thanks

Nairnshire / Re: Old shops in Nairn

Hi Irene

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I don't know what type of shop it was.

He was born around 1847 in Lochbroom and in the 1901 census the family were in Dingwall. He died in 1935 in Aberdeenshire and until now I didn't have any evidnce of him having been in Nairn. Also, his occupation on the various census and other records don't help much either as it is different each time - ploughman/forester/farm servant/scavenger and carter! I was also told he made chairs!

Nairnshire / Old shops in Nairn
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 12:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Would anyone out there know how to find out about shops that would have been in Nairn between 1910 - 1930, or the history of buidings? My gt grandfather (George Cameron) supposedly had a shop around then. I've just found an address for him in 1924 of 45 King Street but don't know if this was the shop address.

I'd be grateful for any help.

Thanks
