Cork / Patrick Carroll born 1828 possible Cork County
« on: Sunday 24 August 14 21:38 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for my g-grandfathers birthplace in Ireland. I am hoping Cork is the county. He was born in 1828 and immigrated to the US about 1855. He lived in Illinois until 1885 when he returned to Ireland. He passed in a Queenstown Hospital on June 23,1885. Thanks

Did Ireland keep records of ships/passengers arriving in the country in 1885? I am searching for my g-grandfather Patrick Carroll arriving in Queenstown from the US probably in mid/ late May 1885. Thanks

I searched the LDS site and found several James B. , but none in your age group in the USA.
Your James B. shows born 03 June 1869 in Medeley, Eng., father James Wagstaff, mother Mary, and Christening date as 07 Nov. 1869.

I haven't found home yet. A family story says Parsonstown (Birr), but I have no facts to back that up. He had just returned from the US and possibly got sick on the voyage and ended up in the hospital where he passed. He had immigrated to the US sometime in the 1850's (?) lived in the Decatur Illinois area from 1860-1885. He separated from the family was returning "home" when he passed. I have a article in the Decatur newspaper ( from US State Dept.), but it only tells about his belongings and life in the USA. If his family was unaware of his death , would there of been any Irish death notice in the paper?
Thanks for the help aghadowey!

Graveyards and Gravestones / Carroll burial in July 1885 in Ireland

I am wondering if there is a database that would list burials anywhere in Ireland for June or July 1885. My g-grandfather Patrick Carroll died on 23 June 1885 in a Queenstown Hospital. No record of his burial has been found in that area, so I am wondering if the family would of had the body moved home for burial. Is this a possibility for this era in Ireland? Thanks for your help.
