Hi, I am looking for any information/photos of my Husband's Grandfather Robert Lamond who born in Peterhead, Scotland 15/08/1909. His mother was Isabella Lamond of Peterhead who had 3 other children at the time of his birth and his father was unnamed. Robert was at the Salvation Army Farm 'Hadleigh Farm' in Essex at around 16/17 years old He emigrated to New Zealand in 1927 where her worked on several farms in the North Island. He served for New Zealand in WWII and was killed in action in Crete. Details as follows:
 Name: Robert Lamond
 Army No: 4952
He was in the 2nd NZEF, 1st echelon, 19th Battalion.
Robert's son was born in New Zealand in 1939 and was adopted out so neither he or his son (my husband) have ever seen what Robert looked like so we were hoping someone may have a photo with him in as there were no official soldier photos taken. Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Naomi

Hi Bluetooner,
Good luck with searching your family history - I think I have found as much as I am going to be able to for my husband and father in law. Do you think there any other family around on your grandmother's side who may have known any more about Robert?

That is certainly the same Robert Lamond - I recently obtained his military history from the NZDF which confirms he was killed in action in Crete and there is no grave, as was the case with many who met the same fate. My Father-in-law Kingsley (Robert's son) visited Crete a couple of years ago and saw his name listed on the memorial you refer to. The military records show that your grandmother Barbara submitted the medals request and war gratuity request on to the NZDF on behalf of her mother Isabella in about 1948 I think. I have been trying to locate as much info as I can on him as my Father-in-law doesn't know much about him as he ended up being adopted out - we are unsure if Robert knew he had a son or not. Does your family know much about Robert? I have been unable to locate any record of who his Father was as he is not named on the birth records. My husband visited Peterhead when he was in the UK about 15-20 years ago and obtained Robert's birth certificate. My husband's name is also Robert, referred to as Robbie, and he is of the same generation as you - I guess it would make you second cousins?

Hi, I am looking for information on Robert Lamond who is mentioned in your post. He is my husband's grandfather and we know very little about him as he was killed in WWII and my father-in-law did not ever meet him. We know he was born 15/08/1909 and ended up at Hadleigh Farm in Essex for a while before emigrating to New Zealand in 1927 at the age of 17. He worked at several farms in NZ before enlisting in the army - he was killed in action in Crete in 1940. I am aware of his two half-sisters Barbara and Jane and have found a little information on Barbara's family but what we are really looking for is a photo if any of the family have anything.
