I haven't found any records of him leaving Denmark. He may well have been a seaman.

I've take a wee look and could only find a Carl August Thomsen born 1843 in Augustenborg to the parents you posted:

There are sometimes indexes but in this case just to looking in the correct year.
The name Just is recorded as his full name.
