Thanks for your help.  I think I'll now get a researcher over in Scotland to do some digging for me!

A soldier!  I would never have guessed.  That means there might be some army records for him, which would be wonderful as all I have is his name!

I have obtained a copy of the marriage register of William Grieves and Margaret Lees who married on 9 Nov 1801 at Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.

The following is the link to a copy of the register:

So far I have worked out this:

William Grieve and Margaret Lees
Nov 5th William Grieves ? in the ?
and Margaret Lees in this Parish gave in their names for ? to Marriage ? Milligan for the man and Walter Grieve for the woman ? Marr: 9 Nov

I would appreciate help filling out the blanks.   These are my 4th great grandparents.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Mortlock 1841, 1851 census
« on: Friday 11 May 07 01:33 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for looking this up for me.   Joseph and Jane were married (presumably) around 1847-1848, but I haven't found any records in the indexes for them.

They also had a daughter, Elizabeth, at the end of 1851, also at St James Westminister, so it was a reasonably safe bet that they were there during the 1851 census.  I was hoping for this census entry to give me an idea of where Joseph and Jane were born.

Thanks
Leonie

Could I please have a census lookup for this family.  They moved to Australia in 1855, and I am having some difficulty tracing their records through the IGI:

Joseph Mortlock bn abt 1821
Jane Mortlock bn abt 1818
Ellen Sophia Mortlock bn 1849 St James Westminster, Middlesex

Thank you

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: Waterhouse - 1841, 1851, etc

Thanks for this lookup.  It looks as if my Mary Maudson isn't the one who married Solomon Waterhouse after all.  (Probably a relative, though.)

Cheers

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Waterhouse - 1841, 1851, etc

Could I please have a lookout for the earlier census for this couple:

Solomon Waterhouse
Mary Waterhouse (his wife) born about 1807

I believe that the wife was Mary Maudson b. 1807 at Chesterfield Derbyshire, but need to see some census entries to be sure.

I think it is most likely that they lived around Chesterfield, but I really have no way of knowing at this stage.

Thank you
Leonie

Thanks Ian,

I had missed the christenings.  The whole family has been hard to pin down.  I suspect that most of the immigrated during the latter part of the 1800s.
