unfortunately the only thing I have is what is written  in the bible that he left his native land feb.1858 for Melbourne Australia being of an adventurous disposition only 16 years of age. I have not searched any shipping records here in either Scotland or England but I will try that next.

the only firm information I have about the Australia connection is in my original post everything else I have is about my direct ancestors that stayed here in Scotland. I am really interested if there were any descendants of Andrew

Thanks for that it sounds promising the names apart from John are all names of the immediate family , he had a brother Donald who left for Otago aged 16 who I am also trying to trace.I have a reasonable amount of information about the family from the end of the 18th century up to the present day, other names married into the McKenzies were Shaw, Cameron, McGregor and Chalmers.

I know it has been a while since this was posted but I found this by accident. I have been doing some family research and among some papers that I found in an old family bible was a paper about William Chalmers about which nobody seemed to know anything about, it gave more or less his history bit was headed death of a Peninsular War hero. He was a sergeant in the Coldstream Guards I will attach this. From my research he was born in 1793 in Flisk in Fife and died in 1864 and is buried along with his wife Janet Fenton spelled Fenten on on the stone in Clackmannan Parish church graveyard this I only found this week the stone being in good condition. His daughter Ann married a man called John Westland whose daughter Margaret married James Mckenzie from Alva who was my great grandfather making William Chalmers my 3 times grandfather. Ihope this is of help. Ian Hall.
