Hello Ciderdrinker and Neale

I am amazed at the latest results finding the Sykes family, certainly considered research I dont know what to say but many thanks - amazing - it must have taken you a while. It is a Yorkshire surname.

I havent found Mary A Sykes (Mary Alice) on 1841 as yet.  I did find the Caroline bpts which I thought could be (witness).

Which are the best maps for London the Charles Booth poverty ones to find streets ?

Hello Neale

I think you have found them!  The marriage of Mary Alice Sykes with fathers occupation gun maker is definitely our John Sykes!  What a brilliant find.

I have been trying to find a good site with old London Streets online which might help me as well.

I dont have Isaac Sykes 1841 ...he was a tailor and died in Essex.

Isnt it strange that John Sykes married a Mary Sykes..

Hello Neale

There are so many Sykes families I dont know which one to go with.. Is this church Spitalfields near to Mile End Old Town ? There is a family tree that has John Sykes married to Mary Tibbetts but I am reluctant to follow that one.

Hi there

I dont know if you have seen this but not quite what you wanted, on Findagrave.com (free) there is a lovely picture of the Memorial Stone for Ralph Abercrombie Hastie there is a large inscription on it as well.  Alot of other detail as well. (Ralph was son of Archibald Hastie and Marion Leggat)  on the details given there. Someone else researching Hastie as well.

I am always drawn to McKay (mine were Irish) various spellings as well so I know about that. Wish you luck another piece to the jigasaw.  There are alot of good people on here (rootschat) very experienced with genealogy.

This is the link

Hi all

I too am revisiting a branch of the tree I havent gotten far with.

Ann Gibson my ggggm.  I only have the baptism in Easington in Holderness and no trace of her marriage or death or how to prove. Her daughter was Jane Gibson bpt in Easington in Holderness any clues or ideas. All the dates are at the beginning of this post 2019.

Thanks.

I found the marriage on ancestry as mentioned at Eccles Lancashire and Ambrose Brookes is listed as a stone mason and his father is noted as Thomas Brookes - cordwainer.

I did find a baptism about 1820 on ancestry for a Baptist baptism in Shropshire it wasnt clear any parents listed.

I am inquisitive myself!
