thanks for the reply! yeah I have looked into the family and they all do seem to stay in the epsom/london area. I mean the plus side is there doesn't seem to be any sign of James in london so maybe it is my one then.
Witness to James' marriage was Benjamin Phillips and Ann Davies - so no luck there. I will try and delve a bit deeper into the family as i can't seem to find Charles jnr after 1871 so maybe he came to Wales aswell?
I've just noticed that the year of birth is slightly out for James, his age in 1891/1901/1911 is stated as 1862/63 but he's showing up on 1861 census with this family, dunno if that's enough to think its the wrong family or not?

Glamorganshire / Re: Evans - UPDATE help needed

Hi guys, I know its been years but i am the original poster for this thread (new username) and I don't know if anyone will see this but I am still slightly stuck with this family. I have ordered the marriage certificate for Margaret Evans and James Evans (although its transcribed as Evanes) and it states James' father as Charles Evans, who's profession was a groom.
Now I have found a family that seem's to fit in 1861;
Epsom, Surrey
Name   Age
Charles Evans   36
Jane Evans   37
Charles Evans   12
Jane Evans   11
William R Evans   8
Arthur H Evans   4
James Evans   1
Thomas Holloway   46

and I would obviously like to order a birth certificate to confirm it's the right family. However I am stuck as I can't find a way to guarantee that the James Evans I have found in 1861 is the same one as mine that came to Wales. Anyone got any ideas on how to try and confirm they are one in the same?
Sorry for the long post.

Diolch

Glamorganshire / Re: Walters help?

Hi David and Julie. I am the original poster (however cannot sign back into that account so have made a new one) I have only just seen these replies. My great grandfather Evan (Elsie and Cecilia's brother) who had 7 children (Megan, Elsie, David, Brinley, Ieuan (my grandfather) Cyril and Shirley) all stayed in Gilfach - I still live here now! Me and my mother would love to hear any stories you both have! If you both would like any photographs of Gilfach let me know, I'm willing to take/send some :)

hi mabel, thank you very much for these! I have found them on the 1911 census but not on the 1901 so its very handy! Sadly still doesn't shed any light on the coal merchant business as her father is just a collier on her marriage cert :(

I have learnt alot about John Morgan Davies' family but sadly none about Sarah's, so im hoping to now dive into that side, hopefully it wont be too difficult!

hi, havnt been on here in a while, I have now got the marriage certificate for Sarah Morgan to John Morgan Davies, his age was 26 and he was living in 4 West Taff Street, Ferndale (its in porth though) and her age was 21 and she was living in 36 Aberrhondda Road, Porth.
His father was David Davies a collier, and hers John Morgan also a collier. Very confusing I know since she also married a John Morgan Davies!!

If anyone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful, hit a massive brick wall with this side of my family sadly.

Thanks again, Lyndsey

Hi, thank you very much for looking and replying!

My Evan had a brother called David John who lived in Gilfach, but sadly the dates don't add up  :(
Yeah sadly I think this may be the case with this grave, that it's simply just too worn, thank you again for looking though, it is very appreciated!

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Glynogwr burial help
« on: Monday 12 August 13 22:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had the means of looking up glynogwr cemetery burials. I am looking for Evan Walters d.1936 and his wife Martha Walters (possibly Martha Banwell) d.1948. I am also looking for David Walters d.1923 and Cecilia Walters d.1921 or just all Walters if that is easier. Thanks very much!
