Family History Beginners Board / murphy family tree
« on: Tuesday 07 October 14 14:19 BST (UK)  »
first i found them in the dublin census 1901 census 172(29 leeson park avenue rathmines andrathgar east dublin,
then the 1911 census 1.2 westmoreland park rathmines and rathgar east dublin,
with all the informationi had i paid a profesional to search here is what we found,
daughter of mr ker church of ireland minister maria elizabeth ker married another church of ireland minisiter from belfast william burroughs gregg  in co monaghan 1870
they had a son henry burroughs gregg born oct 1871
as a cleric they were sent to dublin to 71 grosven or square rathmines dublin
but bought a family home in 1891 3 glenageary hill kingston dubleoghaire
then in 1894 moved to 6 arkendale road kingston dun leoghaire
then  to 29 leesonpark avenue rathmines, rathgar ,east dublin
while we find john murphy born dublin 1850 living at crofton terrace kingstone dun leoghaire.occupation servant
and anne walsh born co wicklow 1851 at la george street kingston dun leoghaire, occupation servant
now william burroughs gregg wanted servants ,so they applied
john murphy married anne walsh inkingston dun leoghaire 1871
if you see census 1901 you will see maria gregg and anne murphy servant, john murphy now stableman,he now was working at trinity colege
william gregg retired in 1890 died 12 sept 1898  age 64  so he must havebeen born in belfast in 1834,maria gregg died in 30 dec 1904 fell sick at leeson park avenue sent to glasthule road sandycove dun leoghaire where she died,
there son henry burroughs gregg age 29  married henrieta scales in 1901 living at 17 mount pleasant square ranelagh dublin,
1911 census 22 ashdale grove terenure age 38
cannot find the deaths of john murphy born dublin 1850,in 1901 census but not in 1911 census,
cannot find the death of anne walsh born co wicklow 1851 ,died dublin ?

i have just returned from dublin ireland,my wife kathleen murphy dunford had a brother william who had died so we flew over to his funeral biggest one i have seen,he had 34 grand children, all of them were calling me uncle, then while there got in touch with nli kildare street where we were intruduced to a profesional searcher anne -maria smith M.A.P.I,on friday gave her some information onthemurphy family on monday she had thpmas murphy army records, for us,mary ann  duffy ,lived at 1 westmorland park with thomas murphys mother anne walsh, and thomas loived at number 3 westmoreland park with his two brothers micheal and patrick, also where mary ann duffy lived with her nmother and father in gullensten cottages there was a public house in front of these cottages ,in the 1920 dublin public houses were green grocers to,and micheal and patrick murphy worked behind the bar ,and thomas murphy was grocer boy that is where he met mary ann duffy,
she is sending me the marrige record of john murphy to anne walsh, married in kingstown dublin, before the marraige they both worked as servants john murphy living at croftonj terrace kingstown, dublin.and anne walsh geoge street kingstown
a civil birth record found patrick murphy born 1880 lists his father as coachman
and on the birth of jane in 1876 he is recorded as a groom, this would tie in with his occupation as a stableman onthe 1901 census returns,
also as we found out john murphy born 1850 was a stabeman in trinity college in 1901
his son thomas murphy born 1890 worked in trinity college till his death in 1937
and his son patrick francis murphy retired from trinty college in 1993.
so with this knowlege went into trinity college ,they gave us a pass to enter ,which we used, found two ladies in charge andthey have promised to send all information onto us,hoping this will help any other murphy trees ,if i get any more i will pass it on,from bob dunford

Hi Bob
A couple of questions. Are you estimating Thomas Murphy's birth year from his death certificate. On family search there are a number of possible birth records which are possibly correct.Did he have a middle name?
Do you know when his brothers died and how old they were?
Do you have the marriage record of Thomas to Mary Duffy. One possible match for the marriage is
Marriages Dublin South Jan/Mar 1921
Thomas Murphy
Volume 2
Page 637
If this is correct it will give their fathers names.
this is correct i have been searching every where ,is it possible for me to see it,it might give mary ann duffy mother and father, now you have got me excited,

Hi Bob
I am not sure what paid subscription sites (Irish) you are hoping to sign up with the only
one I know that has facility for paypal is Ancestry.com, any of the other sites you will have
to contact them or check their terms and conditions. As for applying for certs in the GRO
Roscommon Ireland you can get a copy cert for research purposes. As far as I know they do
not have paypal facility. You either give your card details or post your application with the money i.e. research copy cert is €4.00 euros once you have all the details as in this post

Family History Beginners Board / Re: murphy family
« on: Thursday 10 July 14 14:57 BST (UK)  »
I talking about connecting recent Murphy families to the old line.
There is too many Murphys and not enough old records.
yes i knowthis how do i know which murphy is mine,
but if the history records say that this was the very first murphy .i have to go by this
and if i have a brick wall in my family,it still stands that i come from the first murphy known
so i have to take it that the son of the last king of leinster, was related to me
i know there must be other surnames who have changed there names to murphy ,but as i dont know this about my own family i have to take it was murphy.
i have john murphy born 1700 died 1770 the last bard of blarney castle .and if you go before him there was daithi o murchu or david murphy, and if you go to blarney castel they have paintings of there family going right back ,and as the first one there 1620 was the sons of the king of lienster, who changed his name to murphy, gives you a little true history,
we knowalso from our history books that cromwell went to ireland wexford where the murphys farmed and took there farms away from them giving them all the land in tipperary .ballmore and cashel, then he sent for the Dunford family from Lancashire and Yorkshire to farm Wexford ,
but some murphys must have stayed and worked in dublin
so this was the big break up of the murphy clan
but the ones who stayed called them selves o morchoe chief of the murphy clan of wexford
now there is a lot in the history books, people say how do you know your a murphy, someonedowntheline might have changed there name to murphy, butbyou cant think this way you will not get anywhere, also they say there is 50 000 murphysw in ireland andmore then double that in america, they could not come from two men,but do alittle maths but before you start ,my wife garnd father had 6 sons ,her father had 5 sons, but her brother had 11 sons,so lets do some maths shall we and prove them all wrong
king of leinster
two sons 1620
each son had 8 children we nowv have16 children 1640
each child again had 8 children 16 x8 =58 1660
each child again had 8 children 58 x 8= 464 1680
each child again has 8 children  464 x 8 -3712 1700
each child again has 8 children 3712 x 8= 29696 1720
-----------------------------   29696 x 8 =237,568 1840
------------------------------ 237 568 x 8 = 1900544  1860
------------------------------1900544 x 8 = 15204352 1880
------------------------------15204352 x 8 = 121534816 1900  we have another 100 years
to go and we now have 121 million 534.816 more then enough murphys ,i know you cant count the women born as they lose there name in marraige, but i think we still have enough to prove that two men could have produced all these murphys,
