William Henry (Willie) Cotterill

COTTERILL, William Henry (Willie) - Peacefully, on Monday, December 5th, 2011 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital in his 83rd year. Survived by a brother, and predeceased by sisters Jessie Slingerland (2008) and Doris Wycoff (1978). Willie worked at Provincial Paper for 44 years before retiring in 1981.

Found this Obit, gives Jessie's married name if it's the same family.  Full obit can be found here:

Okay,  here we go... :)

IF you are looking for someone from a local High School, your best bet is to look for them on-line via the following groups on Facebook.  The groups are very active and you will likely get a few nibbles and a bite or two.

"Lambton County Roots"
"Lost Lambton Found"

The reason I say this is that Sarnia Central opened up just as your searchee would have been hitting High School, and the school was just across the park from your ancestors house.  Unfortunately, the school closed mid 1980s.  There are year books from Central and St. Pat's available at the library in Sarnia.

You can also ask about Hannah Memorial and Locheil Street School there and will get lots of folks who remember going there.  They are not as strict about using real names there.

"I am looking for my great Aunt *** *** Lostaunt, does anyone remember going to school with her?  I think she would have gone to Hannah Memorial or Locheil Street School in the 40s/50s, and Central or St. Pat's for High School 50s/60s."

I can still look at Sarnia Observer records and Yearbooks next time I'm in Sarnia, but the Facebook query may be your best bet!

Kindest Regards!

<cough>  Old dusty book held in a safe... <cough> what a wonderful person to deal with... and the Padre was exceptionally kind.

Here is a quick scan of the document I obtained from St. Boniface - original records.  Appears that there was no transcribing error.  I have the entire page if you wish to PM me with your e-mail.  Also, I have the kind woman's contact information...not only is she the parish admin assist, she is also on the genealogical society for the area.  :D  Birth records do not go far enough back to check on birth records and there are none from the old country here.

We looked at the one name and agreed it was "Adam".  There are people assigned to different "Name Studies" in the area.  Klein is one of the names - someone in the area has been studying the Klein family here!  She said to feel free to call her to discuss.

Anyway, great luck to you with the search, just yell if you need a hand again!

Hi!

Locheil Street School and/or Hannah Memorial are right by where your people lived - public school (grade school) for that time. http://hanna.lkdsb.net/about.htm . SCITS would have been the Public High School.

Our Lady of Mercy is one of the older catholic schools in that area.  It is on the corner of London Road and Christina but is a fair walk versus St. Peters Grade school.  My mother was school secretary there for years.  St. Patrick's would have been the Catholic High School.

I am originally from Sarnia and can help you.  What names are you looking for?

Cuithe is gaelic for stronghold - so Dawson Manor or Dawson Castle - both of which point to Dawsoncastle.

Hello All!

My grandma is in this photo along with brothers and sisters.  Thought some of you researchers in Derry area may one day like to reference it.  Hope the detail comes through - if not PM me and I'll email to you in better definition.

Hello!

Frapie, Frapis, Frappe, Frap and others all listed in vital statistics in Drouin collection for time frame you state.  By far the most common is Frappe.

Canada / Re: Mary Degan Born On., Canada

Hi again!

Here is the 1826 marriage certificate for Joseph Degane=Adelaide Tiho dit Ducharme as an example of the records found in the Drouin Collection.  I searched for the earliest birth record I could find for Degan, and found John Degan - born 1827. There are several forms of the last name.

Also, of perhaps more interest, are the witnesses - Jean Baptiste Degane and Alexis Degane (Joseph's parents).  A search for their marriage certificate may get a better grasp of the family tree, which may be published.

Nothing concrete from the record data bases I listed above.

My best guess would be that 17 yr old Margaret was pregnant with Vina in 1881 at time of census, and that Vina (born in 1882 - listed as a lodger) was with Margaret and Grandma at their house at time of 1891 census.

Tough one to prove without hospital records as church records are generally sealed in these situations.

Sorry I could not help more.
