I have found some more about the Gratten family. My sources are New Zealand Births Deaths and Marriages online historical records and the NZ Paperspast website.
Alexander Gratten died in 1860 and Rebecca Gratten died in 1874.
Mary Gratten married John Copland in 1854. She was also witness to my great great grandmother's marriage (Sarah Kelly). Hence my interest in the Gratten family as a means of finding out more about Sarah Kelly. John Copland went on to build a (new?) Thames Hotel in Auckland.
Elizabeth died around the same time as her mother and did not marry.
Richard died when he was 26 years old.
There are newspaper articles which indicate that Rebecca lived in the Thames Hotel and that we bore twins after arriving in New Zealand. A court report tells of goods to the value of £23 being stolen from her.
