Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: John Thomas
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 12:11 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Poppy Turnip,
I did a speculative search this morning on Evelyn Amelia WEDLAKE. She is my Great Grand Aunt and I do not have a lot of information about her and I was seeking to fill some gaps. I knew that she was born in Jul/Aug/Sep 1866 at Swansea. Her parents were John WEDLAKE (1835-1900) and Elizabeth THORNE (1837-1890). I knew that she married in Jul/Aug/Sep 1893 and that there were 4 possibles spouses. One of these was John BARRETT which is confirmed by you. That is most helpful. Thank you. I certainly didn't know that she married again, or her date of death. Again most helpful. As to your search I am not sure that I can help as I do not have a John THOMAS amongst the 1800+ names on my family tree. I could help a lot with WEDLAKES if you are interested.
Kind regards, Roger Wedlake (roger@wedlake.myzen.co.uk)

Glamorganshire / Re: World's End, Swansea

Dear All,
I  had a family member living at No 1, World's End, Swansea and was also uncertain about it's location. Last Friday I visited the West Glamorgan Archives and the archivist was most helpful. She was able to follow the enumerators route when taking the census and almost certainly able to pinpoint the location as being on the south side of Wassail Street, running almost in an East-West direction between Thomas Street/Garden Street and Rutland Street. It is actually in Wassail Street and must have been a local name at the time. This is at the back of the Market on the ground where Debenhams now stands. I have an old map obtained from the Archives. The Rutland Arms is shown to the east of No 1, World's End at the junction with Rutland Street.
