cjwilky.........
Another child named John Boyl Gosling was born in Doncaster District 3Q 1857 - might he be the one who played for Doncaster Rovers?
As far as I can tell, John Boyle Gosling who was born in Long Sutton in 1858, was living in Guisborough between 1878 and 1884 when the family moved back briefly to Lincolnshire. They were back in Guisborough by 1890 and seem to have remained until just after WW1 when John went to work at the coal mines in Doncaster.
Good luck, I hope you find your answer!!

Hi!!
Don't know if you are still looking at the Harriman name or not, but mine came from Barrow upon Soar.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply.
The connection comes through John & Rebecca's first child who was born in November 1878 at Upsall Pit. John and Rebecca married shortly after his birth.
John was a co-founder of the Quoit Club in Guisborough, was the Landlord of the Globe pub at the end of Northgate for a time and also had a shop on Walton Terrace.
Unfortunately we don't have a photograph of John, although we do have a photograph of the Mine Deputies at the time when he would have been working in the local ironstone mines, so maybe one of them is him........ He and Rebecca are both buried in Woodlands Cemetery, Doncaster.
Best wishes
Val.
