Cork / Re: REGAN surname Co Cork
« on: Wednesday 21 October 09 21:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Thanks for that.
My Timothy REGAN who I'm hoping would be a brother of DENIS was born approx 1817 and married Catherine MCNAMARA (don't know when)
Their children as follows-
Daniel b.1840 Ireland
Ellen b. 1845 Timoleague, Ireland
Hanora b 1848 Woolwich
Michael b. 1850 Woolwich
James Stephen b. 1852 Woolwich.

Timothy was a Shipwright working for HM Dockyard, Woolwich, so I'm guessing this might have been his background when working in Ireland?
As you can see from their childrens dates of birth it places them arriving in London between 1845-1848.

Best Regards
Debbie

Could be a possibility but can think of no way or proving it or finding evidence to back it up.
All I know is a brief family story is that 4 REGAN brothers came into this country together from Ireland, but no further information as to when and where they settled.

Thanks for replying  :)
Best Regards

Hello again!
Glad to hear you've made some progress : )
Freehold Street is still alive and kicking as far as I am aware, next time I'm passing I'll see if 61 is still standing and try and get a snap for you.

Thought you may be interested that I googled '61 Freehold St, Hull' and got a link on Genuki for a Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, and there listed is a chap living at 61 Freehold Street in the 1941 Bombing, called CHarles Neville Lofthouse. Go further back, alphabetically, and Eva Brook is mentioned on a previous page.

Link is below,

Good luck with your continued searches.
Best wishes
Debbie

Hi there
Whoops! My mistake meant to type Hunmanby MI's book, not PR's!

Hi there

From Hunmanby PR's book...

'In memory of ANN, the wife of David HADDEN who died March 19th 1835 aged 61 years

Also gives PR details which Gill has already confirmed above.

This is the only Hadden burial in the book.

Kind Regards
Debbie

Hiya

Just checked Kelly's 1933 Hull Directory and he's listed as follows -

BROOKS, Ellis Edwd, Taxi Propr, 216 Hawthorn Avenue, TA 'DIRECT. TA Central 32590.

There are a number of spellings for the surname in the listings, ie Brook, Brooke, Brookes, and Brooks and yours is certainly the latter.

I have the discs for Kellys 1936 Hull Directory and Hull & distr. 1951 Trades Directory but nothing listed for him there.

Kind Regards
Debbie
