Thanks again :-)

Can I ask what you mean by "takes James Bays born 1793 out of the equation"?

Cheers

Thank you for your reply.

The only information I have is that James Bays was born in Littlehampton in 1797. He married a Catherine who was born in South Shields in 1804. He had two sons - Joseph born in 1836 (glass maker) and William born in 1841 (Seaman)

My maternal great x3 grandfather was called James Bays (a mariner) and was born in Littlehampton in 1797 and married a Catherine from South Shields, County Durham. They had two sons William (my great x2) and Joseph. I don't know when James and Catherine married but they were living in Jarrow (near South Shields) in the 1851 census. I'd love to know anything about the Bays family in Littlehampton.

The second cousin of my great x2 grandfather Joseph Bays - born in 1908 - married a Margaret Vipond in South Shields County Durham. Joseph's father - another Joseph was born in 1873 and married a Thomisina Clarkson in South Shields and dies at sea in 1915. Joseph's (the 1908 one) great grandfather was James Bays who was born in Littlehampton, Sussex but was living in south Shields in 1851. Kevin Hicklin

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hicklin in Tattenhill Burton-on-Trent Tutbury

Thank you Miriam for your replies and information - and so quickly too.

The 1861 family seems to be spot on :-) as George seems to have been born sometime between 1851 and 1853 and his son Joseph being born in 1888 in Tattenhill.

Joseph Hicklin married Mary Ann Bennett in 1850 in Tattenhill. It looks possible that Samuel may have been conceived before they were married!!

Are you connected with the area or the family at all?

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help as I've only just started this quest :-)

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Hicklin in Tattenhill Burton-on-Trent Tutbury
« on: Wednesday 24 July 13 09:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello I'm Kevin Hicklin and I'm trying to trace ancestors in Tattenhill, Burton-on-Trent and Tutbury  or any surrounding area.

My great grandfather was George Hicklin and was born in Burton-on-Trent around 1853. He married Elizabeth (nee Paul) in South Shields in 1887 and moved there before 1901. He spent some time as a furnace man in Coseley (Sedgley) and was there in 1891 living at 69 Albert Street.

George and Elizabeth had a son Joseph Samuel Hicklin who was born in Tattenhill in 1888.

My father who was born in South Shields (son of Joseph Samuel) was born in South Shield in 1928.

There seems to be a number of George, Samuel and Joseph Hicklins in Tutbury in the 1800's and I wonder if there is a connection there too.

I'd be very grateful of any information that people may have of the Hicklins in Staffordshire who might be ancestors.

Thank you
Kevin Hicklin

There are a number of coincidences in the information about Joseph and George Hicklin with some of my relatives a century later.

My grandfather was Joseph Samuel Hicklin born in Burton on Trent in 1888. His father was George Hicklin born in Tattenhill (near Burton on Trent) about 1851. His mother was called Elizabeth.

I wonder if there is any connection

Kevin (Hicklin)
