Hi Simon,

How’s the weather in New Zealand?  Us Brits always talk about the weather to break the ice!!!.

As promised I said I would get back to you, now the contents of your previous letter have had a chance to fully sink in.  In answer to your question about surfing the net in August, it had been nothing more than a wet summers’ day, when a work colleague had told me about her Daughter entering her Father’s name onto the computer and carrying out a search.  It was suggested that after not having seen or heard from Reg for some 42 years that I might do the same, not expecting to find your request for information on the Garnett family.

I am willing to help you with your research and would like to get to know you better but as you must appreciate I am a little sceptical as to your identity.

My parents’ divorce was very acrimonious and as a young child I had no choice but to grow up very quickly.  Whilst I feel I have weathered it well over the years, my Brother and Sister do not see things in the same light and with this in mind I would recommend that you do not try to contact them until I have had the opportunity to talk at length with them.

The information supplied to you by a missionary is not entirely true.  Whilst Reg was in the RAF during WW11 he was not a flight engineer with a Lancaster Bomber Squadron, he was actually ground support crew at RAF Northolt in North West London.

I noticed that you did not choose to send me a photograph of yourself.  This would have been nice to see if there are any resemblances between us.  To tell you a little about myself, I am happily married with 2 sons that I am extremely proud of.  My eldest son works for an American Corporation and is currently studying to become a CIMA qualified Accountant.  My younger son works for a large Dutch main building contractor and is studying to become a surveyor.

Your Mum will remember one distinguishing feature about Reg that was unusual for someone of his age, do let me know what she says.

I have no objections if you would like to talk over the telephone at some point as it may be an easier for us both to understand each other.

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Regards John.
