Hi Groves. =)

Thank you for the response; it looks like we do share a family! Their children were James, Elizabeth, Mary, William, Jane, Caroline and George? =)

If you would like to reply to my message directly there should be a link in the top right of the initial message that I sent you.

Thank you David. =)

I saw you post about your photography project in my rounds on the internet. xD I've been following your progress and keeping an eye out for the Cayfords; I had visited e99 myself and knew there was no stone there, but it was lovely to see a plot number for the children and to know they're all together.

I also hadn't linked Ivor Vivian to my family; so the fact he's in there with them gives me a little more information to go off of. =)

Thanks again!

The Common Room / Re: R.A.O.B. or Buffaloes

Hello =),

I was recently shown a photograph of my great-grandfather and great grand uncle. I haven't seen a physical copy but my auntie tells me on the back it says "Buffs, Victoria Hotel, Ferndale, 1920ish"

Below is an image of what they are wearing in the photo. =) Sorry it's not very big, this is as big as I've got.

On the left is William Thomas Williams (b. 1887, Kidwelly) and on the right is Frederick Haydn Cayford (b. 1903, Ferndale, Glamorgan) - the Cayford family ran the Victoria Hotel in the 20s, which is the pub the men are standing in front of in the picture. =)

I'd really just appreciate any extra information anyone can give me, really. =)

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Thank you for your response. =)

I have since found his burial record, thankfully! I was asking the wrong questions, basically. (A silly mistake. I clearly have a lot to learn, still. xD) Instead of asking if there was a Frederick Cayford in the cemetery, I asked in the library if anyone else was buried in his wife's plot. He's in there, but registered as Frederick H. Holloway by mistake.

I'll have to keep an eye on the Welsh Newspapers website. =) A lot of the articles you spoke about were added fairly recently, I think, so it's evident how quickly it is being updated. =)

THanks again for your efforts! I really appreciate it. =)

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Frederick Holloway CAYFORD burial mystery?
« on: Thursday 20 February 14 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all =)

I hope this is in the right forum - I don't have a specific look-up request, so much as the desire to find my ancestor at all. xD

Frederick Holloway Cayford passed away in 1934, aged 72.
His death was registered in Pontypridd - he had lived in Ferndale, Glamorgan since the early 1880s.
His wife is buried in Ferndale Cemetery, plot e99.

However, there doesn't seem to be a record of him in Ferndale Cemetery, or any other local cemeteries, or in the local crematorium.

He was born in Hemington, Somerset, so I am wondering if he was buried there?
I don't know what cemetery he is likely to be buried in, having lived there - so I'm just wondering if anyone could do a lookup in nearby cemeteries for him, if that's alright?

It'd be a big help - I really don't know where else to look! =P

Thanks in advance!

Sorry. =) Llanwynno is the one I meant - just had a momentary lapse of thought.

I don't really know whether they could have been cremated, but I'll definitely have to contact them to see, now. =)

Thank you so much for the help!

Hmm. It is indeed!

I'm wondering if perhaps they're in Blaenllechau cemetery - Lewis and his wife Sarah "Jane" moved to Wales after the 1911 census, so I don't know where exactly in the area they lived. I know it was in the Maerdy/Ferndale area, because they still have relations who live there who I've spoken to. So maybe they just lived higher up than I thought... in which case Blaen might make sense...

... it seems strange to me that Frederick doesn't seem to be buried with Mary Ann, though. Especially since the years between their deaths isn't all that much.

Thank you so much. =)

It is the right spelling of the name; the family originated in Somerset, this was the first generation to live in Ferndale, so it doesn't surprise me that there aren't all that many.

I know it was also spelt Keyford and Caiverd at some point - but that was a few generations back, and all the records I have found consistently state "Cayford" since. =)

Of the ones you've given, I think that:
Fredrick W was Frederick's son - "Frederick Worthy"
G Lewis - Possibly also Frederick's son. "George Lewis"
Robert - Lewis' grandson.
((And possibly the others are ones I don't know about - Lewis seems a likely relation for obvious reasons. =P ))

Also Mary Ann was Frederick's wife, so that's the most exciting to see. =) I'll have to try and find that one!

I wonder why he's not listed, though. Is there any chance the records could have gone missing?

Thank you so much for the information. =)
