Northumberland / Re: Cant family northumberland again

Thank you for your message, Parakeet. In fact, Jane Black was my great grandmother. Both this Foster and his father, also Foster, seem to have lost their first wives in childbirth (after having a number of children). But I suppose it wasn't unusual.
Thanks again.

Thank you for your reply, Parakeet. My problem is that there are two Isabella Cants both born c. 1868. One is the daughter of Foster Cant born c, 1812, and his third wife Isabella Boyd Cant, and the other is the daughter of this Foster's son, also called Foster Cant, and his wife Jane Black. So the Isabellas are aunt and niece despite having the same age. And both fathers are called Foster. One of the Isabellas married and became Isabella Boddy, but which one? I haven't been able to differentiate them. Thank you again for your reply.

Northumberland / Cant family northumberland again

I'm looking for information on two Isabella Cants, both born in 1868 in Northumberland. One was the daughter of Foster and Isabella Cant. The other, Isabella Black Cant, was the daughter of Foster and Jane Cant. They were aunt and niece although born in the same year. As both fathers were called Foster it's difficult to know what became of them. Does anyone know?

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Authorised marriages in 19th century England
« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancestor who apparently married his deceased son's wife in the mid 1800's two years after they had a child together. I checked the authorised marriages list and this marriage was forbidden. Does anyone have an idea how they managed it?

Thanks, Stan. It looks like a good place to do some shopping next time I'm in England.

Does anyone know what happened to the George and Dragon hotel in Morpeth? Or its address? Or the Earl Grey Hotel which seems to be next door to it in a 1956 photograph?
Also does anyone know if the John (Jack) Grantham who was ran the Star and Grand Cinema Palace in Newcastle around 1909-1911 is the same John Grantham who became Mayor of Newcastle in 1936?
