Australia / Re: KENNEDY - Ingham / Townsville 1952

Hi, I have the marriage certificate for Eliza McKay born Harrington, Cumberland 1830 daughter of James McKay and Mary Dand who married Henry Dixon from Dean in Cumberland son of Robert Dixon (Blacksmith). (Married 26 June 1852 at Harrington).
Eliza and Henry arrived 22 Dec 1852 at Geelong on the "James T Foord". Henry was 21, Eliza was 22 with a baby daughter. They were going to Waurn Ponds to Donald McLean.
Henry died 3 June 1853 and is buried Geelong Eastern Cemetery.
If this is the family you were enquiring about I can give you much more on Eliza.
I noticed you are also interested in Munro's from Alness. My g. grandfather John Munro was from there. He migrated to Victoria in 1853.

The Common Room / Re: You know those 'buggy' little questions? CHRISTIE

Hi Victorian Dreamer,
I have been researching the same James Scott Christie for a friend who is a family member also. I will tell you what I have found and you can ignore or investigate further, I am becoming thoroughly confused with them.
James Christie b1768 married a Margaret Scott b 1772. They appear to be the parents of James Scott Christie b 17 Jan 1792 bap 19 Jan 1792 at Lying in Hospital Endell St Holborn London. Discharged from hospital 4th Feb 1792. On the bap which was signed by James he is a servant and was 27, his signature is in the book. I think Margaret wanted to continue her surname of Scott.
James Scott Christie married Isabella Christy.
I found Isabella (Christy) Christie (wife of seaman) aged 25 in the 1841 Census with Mary b 1832, John Scott 1834 and Charles 1839 all at Tingwall, Shetland Isles.
I looked in Shetland Isles because the information I was given has John Scott Christie born 1833 in Tingwall. I have done other research on John Scott but will not keep going until I hear I have travelled the correct path. (I have been using Find My Past and also Ancestry)

Inverness / Re: Which Alexander Cameron was born in the "shaddow of Ben Nevis"
« on: Tuesday 09 June 15 05:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi to all,  My g.g.grandmother was Mary Cameron born about 1813 (I think), her father was an Alexander Cameron who was an inkeeper at Unachan. She married Donald Cameron at Kilmonivaig 17 Jan 1833. He was a blacksmith at Blarour. Later Mary married a Munro (my g.g.grandfather) and migrated to Australia. On her death certificate her father was named Alexander and mother Janet. She had a sister Ann who married James Mackay 1834. Hope I'm not confusing any issues here but so many Camerons to get confused about.

Inverness / Re: John Munro blacksmith

Thank you to all of you who gave me much to think about. Unfortunately John and Mary had no further children after David so can't follow girl's names as suggested. Yes Mary was married to a Donald Cameron and Mary had also been a Cameron. Her father was Alexander and an :) inn keeper.
She had 5 sons with the last one being John Cameron. Her first son to John Munro was also called John so she had 2 Johns and when living in Melbourne both John's were known as Munro. On Mary's death certificate only the 2 sons to John Munro were mentioned. There was obviously a rift between her Cameron sons and herself. Kaye

Would anyone be able to help in finding any information on John Munro who married Mary Cameron (widow) at Kilmonivaig 21 July 1848 please. He was a journeyman blacksmith at Blarour farm but the family migrated to Melbourne in 1853. On John's death certificate it states he was born at Rosshire and his father was also called John and a farmer, mother's name was unknown. I would really appreciate any info on his family from Rosshire please.  Kaye

Thank you so much to you all, for this information. Maybe Eliza took after her dad in marrying although she was widowed very young both times. This is fabulous information for me and I do appreciate your hard work for me.  Kaye.

Yes thankyou very much. Eliza married 1852 in Harrington and migrated to Australia 1853 with a daughter. She then proceeded to marry twice more and have 8 more children but unfortunately only 2 girls survived. I would love to know what happened to her father. Kaye
