Aberdeenshire / Re: Query regarding place of birth

Hi and thank you all so much!

Some of the maps are fantastically helpful in getting an overview of the areas and their boundaries.

I think I might have to take a trip up to Aberdeen to get any further.

I know so little about this part of my family but you have all given me much more of an insight. Thank you again!

Hello both and thank you!

I was totally at a loss with what that first word might say... now that I have some idea I can scout around and see where it might be.

I shall have a look at the Craigie you mention on the NLS website you mentioned, josey.

My thanks!

Aberdeenshire / Query regarding place of birth
« on: Thursday 17 December 15 10:50 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning

I am trying to decipher the place of birth given in the attached record. I have done a search for anything around Aberdeen (the families of Prosser and Jaffray lived around the Tarves, Hatton of Fintray area) but can find nothing close. The second part looks like Craigie...

Would anyone be kind enough to have a look and tell me if it makes sense to you? Apologies for my ignorance, this is a new area of my family I am beginning to search and have not had much experience with my Scottish ancestors, as yet.

My thanks

Thank you for replying, both  :)

The page it's on is the one listing next of kin and home and abroad service as well as marriages and birth of children.

The line reads:

"Appointed guardian Mrs E Thompson (17/21st PTO 105/36)"

There was nothing on the next page that might suggest PTO meant that...

A guardian would have been appointed as my grandmother died 22/9/1936 so I would think the guardian (her mother) would have been appointed shortly before her death.

Maybe it is a reference to some other document I don't have.

Oh well :) thanks so much for looking at it :)

Armed Forces / Help with dates in service records

Good Morning

I am trying to decipher what look like dates in service record entries for 1936. They may not be dates at all though... they may be something else, like entry numbers for some kind of records?

One entry has the date 12.8.35 with (80/35) in brackets underneath it. I can't figure out what it might mean. The date I am trying to pinpoint is written only as 105/36 for something I know happened in 1936 but not what exact date.

Any help much appreciated. The records are for the 17th/21st Lancers in India.

Many thanks

Emma-Jane (confused as always)

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with a Will 1560 COMPLETED with thanks
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello there

I have a will from 1560, for Thomas Tunwell of Fulbourn. It is fairly easy to read, which is a welcome change, but there is a section I need to ask for help with, as it could make quite a difference to my research.

I have attached the section that includes the lines I need help with. It is just certain words, but I don't want to mention them as it might influence how you might see them!

Any help very much appreciated :)

My thanks
