Tipperary / Re: The Molly Mahers of Thurlesbeg and Lee family of Freighduff

Freighduff and Thurlesbeg are both in the Parish of Boherlahan Dualla.

I can confirm that Mary Lee was baptised in Dualla and was the daughter of Patrick Lee and Mary Meagher of Freighduff. She was their sixth child and a sister to David you mentioned.

She married William Maher on the 18th Feb 1857, they had James, Mary, Patrick, John and Alice.

Mary's sister Johanna Lee married a Timothy Maher and they lived in Freighduff, one of their daughter Mary became Sister Angela Meagher and died in 1939 at the Sacred Heart Convent, Melbourne and another of their daughters was Margaret, sister Gabriel Meagher who is mentioned in "Held in our Hearts" the story of the Sisters of Mercy of the Goulburn Congregation. Both also appear in articles of the Boherlahan Dualla Historical journal (2005 and 2008 with photographs). It is interesting that their cousin Alice was also in Goulburn.

I have a lot of information on the Lees so you can contact me privately. I can find out about the Molly Mahers, I am not familiar with the nickname but I am more au fait with the Dualla side of the Parish.

We have a very active Historical publication and would be delighted to help

C Mulcahy Dualla

I believe I may also be related to these Lees and Mahers/Meaghers in Freaghduff.  All four of my paternal great-grandparents are living in Freaghduff in the 1901 census.  My grandmother's father is another Timothy Maher who married Hanora (Nora) Lee.  I do not know who their parent are, but since my great-grandfather named his son James, I have thought it possible that his father may have also been a James and his grandfather a Timothy.  My grandfather's father, Matthew McGrath (son of Thomas McGrath), married Mary Ryan (daughter of Philip Ryan) who was a widow previously married to a Howard (I believe a Patrick Howard).  I am interested in contacting any relatives or anyone with more information on these families.
