Hi Dathai,

The 1945 burial of a Frances Fitzgerald, she is a widow of a car man, so only married into Fitzgerald family.

James Fitzgerald, Frances or Fanny Fitzgerald's brother was buried in Deansgrange in 1962, wonder if she is there?

Hi Nessa,

Fanny Fitzgerald was christened Frances Kate born 25.09.1886 and christened in St. Andrews, Westland Row.

link:http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633501#page/142/mode/1up

Sponsors are Thomas and Rose Fitzgerald.

The other info i have is that 'a' Frances Fitzgerald is listed as living in 4 Leeson Park with rest of family on voters register for year 1943/1944

link:http://databases.dublincity.ie/electoral/viewdoc.php?&voterid=1761169&source=integration

I haven't found her after that YET!

Her mother Lucinda died in 1944 as did as her sister Sheila.

If you could private mail me as i have other info on this family as I'm also related to this family.

I hope the above helps.

The link i gave you was for (Catherine) in St. Michaels RC in Kingstown so it is a baptismal record, though it does give the birth date  26.03.1867.  Baptised on 05.04.1867
sponsors: James Dunne and Mary Brennan?

here is the link for the earlier child MaryAnne:

http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633812#page/57/mode/1up

same church - birth date 09.02.1864  Baptized: 24.02.1864
sponsors: Robert Lenihan and Mary Stack?

perhaps the sponsors names may mean something to you.

This is based on parents being Matthew Comerford & Annie Cullen in Kingstown.

There is a Mary Anne Comerford birth reg. in 1864 Rathdown available from GRO
V.2 P. 807  District: Rathdown

I would also give the suggestion from Dathai re birth for Catherine born in Dublin North 1867 a shot, as its possible the birth could have taken place there in hospital?

Good Luck :)

Hi Cathy,

Could this be your Catherine Comerford born in Kingstown?  The surname is a bit botched, but father's name is clearly Matthew Comerford and mother Anne Cullen living in Clarence Street.

http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633812#page/121/mode/1up

Date of birth is 26.03.1867 - which happens to be same date as one of Tara's familysearch links for an Anne Comerford.  It may have been an error in transcription, no fault of Tara.

Dathai  Cathy's  Matthew Comerford is not one of the bold Fenian men - my Matthew Comerford who is married to Elizabeth Archbold is the Fenian.

What both of the Matthew Comerfords have in common is that marriages are recorded after a few children have been born.  I would love an explanation of this as its doing my head in.. ???

I can add the information that Mary Fitzgerald must have been very proud of her family. For one thing, she named her son after her brother, Theobald Wolfe Tone Fitzgerald! Her son, Wolfe Tone (known as Tone) McDermott was my grandfather... Theobald and Joe (Joseph) McDermott, Mary's husband were together at Boland's Mills... pity more of the women's stories are so hidden in these searches/histories - Mary's identification of her young dead brother must have been hugely traumatic & Sheila Fitzgerald is also a veteran of 1916. Family lore tells it that Leo was killed on his 21st birthday.

Re: James Farrell/O'Farrell and Cadet Beard - I have gone through newspaper clippings I have for the Fitzgerald family and I hope the following is of help to you.

Source: Irish Independent March 18th 1921

Article Title: Inquiries & Funerals

At the end of the article the following paragraph:

Funeral of Cadets

"The remains of the 2 Auxiliary victims of the Great Brunswick St shooting understood to be those of Section- Leader Beard M.C, and Temp. Cadet Farrow (presumably the cadet also referred to as Farrell and O'Farrell) were removed by the L.N.W steamer from Dublin t Holyhead last night, the body of the former being it was understood, bound for Nottingham, and of the latter for Birmingham for burial.  The remains were escorted by about 10 tenders containing Auxiliaries, lorries with soldiers, and R.I.C men; an armoured car bringing up the rear.  Several beautiful wreaths were held on the coffins."

Earlier in the article it states that an inquiry into the death of Bernard O'Hanlon took place in King George V Hospital.  Bernard O'Hanlon was buried in Dundalk.

Edit: Wreaths were laid on the coffins

Excellent work on the death record. That must be it.  Next time I'm in GRO I'll get it.

Thanks again.

Hi Ruth & Nessa

Leo was born on 12.03.1893 - I have a copy of his birth certificate.  So that would make him 28 yrs old when he died (14.03.1921)    I haven't been able to find his official death cert in GRO indexes - it may have been a very late registration.  If anyone can help on that would be much appreciated.  Leo is buried in Glasnevin - south Chapel ref no: 368570

Your grandfather Theobald McDermott - was he born in 1913?  I only have the children that Mary Josephine Fitzgerald/McDermott listed on Census 1911.

Lucinda Doolin/Fitzgerald was my great aunt.  My great grandfather James Doolin was Lucinda Doolin/Fitzgerald's brother.  James & his wife Mary Jane Fitzpatrick/Doolin were witnesses for marriage of Lucinda Doolin & Thomas J. Fitzgerald on 1st June 1881.

So that would make us some form of cousins.  I think Lucinda Doolin/Fitzgerald is your great great grandmother?
I would be interested in any other info you may have on this family.

Hi,

I may be able to help on this one.  I'm researching the Fitzgerald family also.

Information I have to date on Mary Josephine Fitzgerald as follows:

She married Joseph McDermott - in 1904
Source: www.familysearch.org
ref: Dublin South
Apr/Jun 1904
Volume: 2
P. 681

She is listed on Census 1911 under the name McDermott of 12 Mark Street (Trinity ward).
is at home with husband and 4 children.

In 1921 Mary Josephine McDermott(nee Fitzgerald) identified the body of her younger brother Leo Fitzgerald who was shot and died in Great Brunswick Street on14.03.1921
Source: irishnewspaperarchives.com
Paper: Irish Independent 1905 - current
Article: "Inquiries and funerals'  dated: 18.03.1921

The other query regarding the 3 missing children of Thomas Fitzgerald & Lucinda Doolin (Lucinda is my connection) I may also be able to help.

Joseph, Elizabeth & Patrick born 21.03.1897
death refs for all three: www.familysearch.org
Apr/Jun 1897
Dublin South
Volume 2
Page: 496

they are buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in family plot: St. Bridgets  JH 260.5
That's it if I find anything else I'll post it here
Forgive the lack of direct links - I'm new at this.

Regards
B.
