Lancashire / Re: Crossley Hospital, Ancoats, Manchester
« on: Friday 29 August 25 13:21 BST (UK)  »
This is my confusion.
On my birth certificate it says I was born crossley hospital ancoats.

My mum shown me how she got into the building apparently it was on the left side of it.  Then I came across a hospital in ancoats. It just said ancoats hospital.
So I was confused about them both.
My mum pointed out to me the correct one by the 2 photos.

So what I'm trying to do now is work out would my mum have stayed in a house after having me or would she have gone home after a short time in hospital.
It's just something I never thought of asking her about. I wish I had now.

If anyone can help me solve this.
I would really appreciate it.
Thank you again everyone

Kind regards
Dorothy

Hello everyone.
I'm trying to find out how to get a copy of my birth records from a hospital I was born in. It was crossley. Apparently the hospital was ran by the salvation army
My mum had me in 1957 she was a unmarried mum. But living with my dad who apparently was still married waiting for his devorce to come through. They eventually got married when I was 3 years old.

Please can anyone help me as I have been trying to find out about my birth records.
To see if I was born with a medical issue that wouldn't have been detected because they wasn't looking for it.

If anyone can help me anything.
I would really appreciate it

Thank you again for your help and your time
Kind regards

Lancashire / Re: Manchester Workhouse - records?
« on: Friday 20 June 25 08:00 BST (UK)  »
Good morning everyone.
I'm still searching for my gran Eveline.
Recently I have been told my gran was born in either 1905 or 1906.
It's very confusing of where she was born I have a family member who says the one's who adopted my gran went to live in Scotland as family members were living there. They took my gran with them.
The confusing part is was she born in Manchester and moved to Scotland or visa versa.

Recently it's been mentioned that Annie ( who is down as adopted my gran Eveline with her husband David joesph Schulman)

She could be my grans biogical mother. And my gran Eveline was born either 1905 or 1906.

I wrote a letter to Scotland over a week ago and I received a letter back yesterday.

Saying they are unable to find any record of my grandmother

This could be because we only hold adoption records here at the NRS  from 1930

It goes on to say if you need any further assistance there are many firms and individuals known as record agents or professionals who can under take family research on your behalf.  WWW.asgra.co.uk.

So I've been thinking about something.
If my gran Eveline was born in Manchester 1906 or 1905. It's possible that she was in a work house
Apparently Annie was married before she married David joesph Schulman. Her marriage name was Annie o'prey.
She did have children. But when she married David she was a widow.

So now I'm trying to find out where Annie was living before 1905.

I know she married David joesph Schulman in 1908 in Edinburgh.
Annie's birth name is Annie obrien.

So because of all the confusion.
I thought I would ask for help.
I've asked for help in the past about my gran Eveline. But something has given me an thought.
Please if anyone can help me with anything at all.
I would appreciate it.

Just in case you need it.
I've always known my gran Eveline was born 26th of February 1911. I didn't know where until a few years ago. From what I can understand she was born in Aberdeen. According to the Scottish census for 1911.
On the census it says Eva Barrett adopted daughter of David joesph Schulman and Annie. At school age 5. .

Eva Barrett was David's baby sister who passed away around 1897 she was a year old. Her mum dinah died the year before.

If anyone can help me with anything. I really would appreciate it.
Thank you for your help and your time

Kind regards
Dorothy

Family History Beginners Board / Can anyone please help me with something
« on: Thursday 29 May 25 07:06 BST (UK)  »
Good morning everyone.
I'm not sure how if possible if anyone can help me with something I'm trying to find.
As you know I've been doing my family research for a while now quite a few years ago I was kindly sent a 1911 Scottish census. In the Cencus it has my grans name down as Eva Barrett and her adopted parents David joesph Schulman and his wife Annie.
Apparently my gran Eveline was born in Aberdeen  we knew apparently her birthday is 26th February 1911.
But recently I have been told /it's been suggested that she could have been born either 1905 or 1906

I have a great aunt who has told me what she was told but could be rumour.
My gran was left on the door step of Annie and her 1st husbands  they both took her in.   So I questioned myself. If this is true. How would they know my grans birthday. Unless Annie is the biological mother of my gran. I'm only thinking about it.

So I thought if only I could find out 2 addresses for each.
The address of where Annie and David was living. And the address of where Annie and her 1st husband was living before either they split up or when Annie's 1st husband passed away.

I came up with the idea last night. It's been bothering me all night.
So I thought why not ask for help by the ones who know what they are doing.
Maybe  I will get the addresses maybe not.
But at least I would know.

So I'm hoping if at all possible if someone can help me. I don't know where to start with this.
Thank you all again for your help and your time. I really appreciate it.
Kind regards
Dorothy

I'm really confused now. And mixed up.
My great grandfathers name is Samuel Benjamin Cooper. He was born around 1870 - 71. His father's name was John if I remember correctly. I think they are from Manchester.. My great grandparents are Samuel Benjamin Cooper and isabella Cooper formerly povey.

This part I'm confused about and mixed up with.
At 1st I was told via Facebook. From a family member  who won't help with with anything he claims to know.
He originally told me that the ancestors we have the whole family died  and I asked him who they were. All he's given me is Samuel Cooper and Hannah. He hasn't told me at the beginning Hannahs maiden name. So I had to ask for help from a really kind lady  who I think is on this group.

My brother later on told me after I said I know Hannahs surname. He said I was wrong. It's not Pearson it's Bentley.

So now I'm really confused.
Was Hannah /Anna called Bentley or Pearson. I only know she was born 1820 /21    I don't know anything else about her.

I just want to know who they all were and what happened to the whole family.

Sometimes I really get mixed up with everything. And I forget.  Which makes it difficult for me to understand things.
This is one of the reasons my brother said hes not going through it over again with me. And he's refusing to tell me what he's found out. He knows I'm trying to find out the same thing as he is.
To be honest I think he's being cruel like he's always has been.

Please can anyone help me

Family History Beginners Board / Please can anyone help me with something new

Hello again everyone.
I'm not sure what part of the forum to ask for help with.
As everyone knows that I have been looking for my great grandfather Samuel Benjamin Cooper.
Well recently I've had a few comments on Facebook group about a post I did on angel meadow manchester slums
I. Wasn't expecting anything about what im
About to ask.
My brother is one of people who commented on my pictures.
It was only then I found out according to him. We have ancestors connected to angel meadow manchester slums.
So I asked him who they were.
He said the hole family died and he told me who 2 of them were.
Samuel Cooper and Hannah. He didn't say what Hannahs maiden name is.
But a very kind lady who has been helping me over the years. Found me some cencus. One was the 1851 census and the 1861 census.
On both of them Hannahs names are different. 1961 census says Anna and she's a widow. 1851 she's Hannah.
Hannah is now Hannah Pearson born in 1820. Samuel Cooper is born 1818.
So what I did was tell my brother that Hannah is called Hannah Pearson. He said its wrong it's Hannah Bentley.

So I asked him again about what happened to our ancestors. Apparently Hannah and Samuel had a few children one is called John. According to my brother John is my great grandfather Samuel Benjamin Coopers uncle.

But he still hasn't told me anything else about my ancestors. All he has said is. He's not going through it again. And I'm to get my helpers as he's doing his own research.
To be honest I don't think any of what he's told me is true. That's why he won't tell me anything.
Apparently there address was 4 walkers croft. But I've recently been told it's 4 walkers court Manchester. I think it's classed as Angel meadow.
For the last few days I've been trying to find out about my ancestors. Who they were and what happened to them. Did they all die at once or separately. By the sounds of the 1861 census Hannah /Anna survived. But I don't know anything else.
My brother just refuses to help me on what he says he knows. He won't even answer any comments I make.

So I thought I would ask the ones who have been very helpful to me over the past few years.
I. Just hope I can find out.
It's driving me daft not being able to get any answers from my brother.
Please can anyone help me with this.
I really appreciate any help.
Thank you all again for your help and your time.
Kind regards
Dorothy

World War One / Can anyone please help me with something
« on: Friday 11 April 25 22:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello again everyone. I'm having trouble with something. I'm a member of a group on Facebook it's called Manchester military 1914 - 1918. I asked a question about something to do with the difference between the 13th btn Manchester and the 18th btn Manchester Regiment.
All I got was someone trying to be clever making me feel like I don't know any.
So I googled it. And found out something.
So I posted it on the group.
Then I got asked where did I get my source from as what I posted was wrong.
And could I put a link so they can tell me.
I've been trying to find the link but I can't find it.

So I thought I know who can help me.
The ones who I trust.

My original search was trying to find out
Where my 2 great uncles started off before they went off to fight.
I was also told that my great uncle Thomas Coopers regiment was the 18th btn Manchester Regiment and not the 13th as it was on a page.

Please if anyone can help me with anything at all. I really would a it.
It's just that I'm being told so many different things in comments on the group.
And I'm being told I'm wrong. Even if I googled it to find out what I'm trying to find. Please can anyone help me?
Thank you all again for your help and your time.
Kind regards
Dorothy

Thank you all so much for your help.
Now I can understand why there isn't a marriage between my gran Mary Ann Cooper and Robert Turner.
As I've mentioned earlier.
My dad's father is unknown. And so is his brother William coopers father.
It's a bit confusing as my gran Mary Ann Cooper had a brother called William. But he died in ww1 maybe she called my uncle William after her brother. ( my great uncle William)

I believe that my gran Mary Ann Cooper did marry Richard seddon. And has 3 children. 2 girls and 1 son.
I can't remember the sons name.
But the girls are agnus and Alice

I remember when I was a teenager my dad said we have a relative called Alice Cooper. I thought he meant the singer.
He probably meant his mums daughter . I think it would be his half sister.

Which is very confusing.
My Gran Mary Ann.
Having children to different men.
2 of them we don't know the father's name but apparently are brothers. Then there is John turner. His father is Robert Turner.

Mary married William Young. 1916. He passed away a year later. No children.
Then Mary married Richard seddon. And had 3 children.

So I'm thinking they are all my dad's half siblings except for William Cooper ( my uncle)

Thank you again everyone for helping.
I don't know how you all manage this.
I never know where to start. So I ask for help if I can't find what I'm looking for.

Thank you for your help.
Kind regards
Dorothy
