Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: St Chad's Holt PR - Bithell
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 20:05 BST (UK)  »
Henry Ellis has always been a mystery/brick wall, we have not been able to trace a birth, and he didn’t physically appear on any records until 1897 when he married Mary Jane Povey, and gave his name as Henry Ellis he was listed on the baptism of his daughter Emma as Henry Ellis Bithell, even this was confusing at first as it appeared that Emma was born & died on the same day, this was however a transcription error, and Emma Ellis lived in to her 90’s, Henry was thought to have been born in 1866, in Rossett there was no record, however there was a Henry Bithell born in Rossett, who was tracked through the census until 1891 when he was living in the same village as Mary Jane Povey his future wife, between 1891 & 1897 Henry Bithell became known as Henry Ellis Bithell then the Bithell disappears & Henry Ellis emerged !

I have just found out I am related to the Bithell’s from Holt, Great grandfather was Henry Bithell/Ellis born 1866 to John Bithell & Mary Price, siblings Alfred & Alice, does anyone have this family in their tree, or any info as to why my great grandfather suddenly became an Ellis in 1897 ?

Hi Dave
My gt grandfather was also Henry Ellis, I guess that makes us cousins ? My grandfather was William born in 1912, he sadly passed away in 1980 he was 67.  I’ve heard my mum talk about your grandmother Emma. I recall talking to my great  aunt Amy about her mum & dad & she used to say mother was born in Farndon, father in Holt. It looks like Henry was 10 years older than Mary, and that their 1st child was born out of wedlock hence him being Harry  Povey Ellis if you want to get in touch please email me (*) perhaps you can also help me as I was looking in to Emma’s line today did she marry Percy Davies ? Speak soon Sue

Cumberland / Re: James Reney

Hi Liz
Wondered if you might be able to help me ?
I am just starting off trying to trace the history of my home, we moved here in August this year, and I have just been given the deeds, which show that a James Reney (died 1904) must have owned the house at some point, and it passed through his trustees up until 1942, when it was sold.

I have searched the censuses but cant find any record of any Reneys living in the house, or indeed, find the house name listed on the census as yet, it might be that the Reneys owned the house but rented it to tenants ?

Anyway, my house is Wirral View, on Golftyn Lane in Connahs Quay, have you come across anything in your research which might shed any light on this ?

Thanks

Sue
