Australia / Re: John and Isabella BARR

Shipping Intelligence from the Empire newspaper for Thursday 11 December 1851
- Arrivals -
December 10 - "William and James", schooner, 74 tons, Captain D. Gray, from Wellington the 20th November.
Passengers: Mr. G. W. Belford, Mr. and Mrs. Barr, John Barr, J. Dennet, John Geaves, Mr. and Mrs. Broadhurst and son

The V means that it is a Church record of baptism not a birth. Before March 1856, records were kept by Churches, and baptismal/christening dates were more important that birth dates.  As the family arrived in 1851, and she was born in 1854, family lore may be incorrect .. but, a baptism date can be long after the child's birth.

Are you a member of Ancestry ? they have half a dozen trees that claim Mary Jane as an ancestress ..

Do you have access to ancestry.com.au ? there are at least a dozen public trees that stem from John Thomas Shields and wife Elizabeth Hyatt  ... if not, I could possibly direct them to you here ?

The Register Of Pastoral Leases 1861-1868 does not actually say where it is located ...

John Kelsall, manager, is listed with Martha Kelsall and Jeani Hastie Kelsall, on Kinglebilla Station [560km west-southwest of Brisbane] on both the 1903 and 1905 Australian Electoral Rolls .. John Kelsall [no parental detail] died 1922 in Queensland [no detail]

Both Qld and NSW BDM do not have marriages listed ..

Does anyone have access to this book? I am trying to find anything on:

Page 632: McManus, Joseph (29) Plasterer
Page 370: Peterkin, Jane (19) House servant

As far as we are concerned, they arrived in Australia from SA . That's it - I am not even sure what is supposed to be in the book. ...

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Re: May Marriage to identify
« on: Monday 26 August 13 11:24 BST (UK)  »
Definitely brothers but
Charles May son of Daniel & Lucy was born 12 August 1832
and
Charles May son of  Joseph & Mary was born 10 November 1833

We had incorrectly identified D&L's Charles as our direct line whereas in J&M's Charles is correct ..

It ended up not as bad as it could have been - especially if J&M's Charles was out-of-family .. It is now a matter of detaching the "line" from one Charles and re-attaching it to the other [correct one] .. Learning all the time !!

Thank you for you assistance ... it throws a spanner into the works as we were veering towards the other alternative ... oh well, back to the drawing board, or family tree  ..
