Dear All,
A year has passed since this discussion took place.  I was soooo hoping that an update would have been posted; any chance??? please?   I have found this man, Thomas is in my tree and I am too am having the same nightmare tracking him down!  He is linked to my tree through his father, who married (2nd time around) a woman half his age, Sarah HOLLINS... this is my link!

Would love to know more/ get in touch.

Best wishes and Happy Puzzling in 2012

Janice,

It would be great to exchange information about the STEPHENSON/ SIDDLE/ HUDSON sides of our family when you are able to find some time.

Cheers

Hello Janice

I am researching the same family but from the HUDSON angle.  It is the same Thomas and he did marry twice!

Ann Applegarth HUDSON (1844 to 1915) (listed as Ann Ap on the above census) was the daughter of Thomas HUDSON and Margaret Applegarth HUNTER.

Thomas STEPHENSON's children:
Emily, Walton (or Walter) Siddle, and Thomas (poss middle name is Shotton) were the children of his first marriage.  Children to Ann Applegarth HUDSON are:
Ann Hunter, James Lamb, Robert Ernest and Charles Rechab (all STEPHENSONs of course).
I do have a bit more if you are interested...   Thomas HUDSON was the brother of my great x3 grandmother, Jane HUDSON who married Thomas LONGSTAFF.

Great to read your messages

As a matter of interest, the HOLLINS family are my ancestors!  Lester HOLLINS, the tailor, was my greatx2 grandfather on my father's side.  I wondered who the BROOKS was... it's nice to see he belongs to somebody!

Cheers

Shelley is right: I'd forgotten about that site.

ALso, if you go to this site, there are some wills for WRANGHAMs of London/ Middlesex/ area, which may or may not be part of your family.  It could be worth a look/ ordering one or two?  I have used the site a few times now and it is amazing what clues there can be in some wills.

Hello there,

I looked for the information on the IGI - Latter Day Saints website - www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/frameset_search.asp?  On many baptisms (marriages etc too) there is a 'batch number' below, which if you click on it, will take you back to the first screen and you type in the surname again (and the father's first name if it's a common surname) and it will search that church register/ film/ records they hold (they are not complete records) for other baptisms on that batch number.   You can use that screen and change the last number in the batch number from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 etc up to 9 and search other records at that church also as they often are listed on subsequent batch numbers.  Hope this makes sense??

I did have a look for other children on this batch number and there were none.  It is also not uncommon for ancestors to move around and it is not that far from Westminster to Whitechapel.  My husband's family moved all over London then to Berkshire between 1841 and 1901!  As for changing occupations, again, I have come across some extreme cases of this also: from jeweller to labourer etc!   I think it was deliberate to throw us descendants off the scent!!

Good luck!  Louise

Hi,

I am not sure where your family came from.  Is your William Joseph WRANGHAM the one bap 26 Feb 1815 St Clement Danes, Westminster?  Parents: William & Sarah?   I have had a quick look to see if I can find the parents' marriage but seem to have drawn a blank here: any ideas?  Also, I looked at the batch number to see if any other children were baptised to this couple here: none!   They could have moved into the area.   There were a couple of other WRANGHAMs having children in Middlesex at this time: JOseph/ James - I wonder if they are William the elder's brothers?

Sorry I can't give you a firm answer.   You seem to be right in that most WRANGHAMs seem to come from the 'north' - Cumberland and Yorkshire in particular.   If I can help, I will.
