I since have received a copy of Jane Johnston's (b 1826)wedding certificate dated 24/4/1846 - her father is named as John Johnston, farmer, Reskaterriff (which is about 4 or 5 miles NE of Aughnacloy, Co. Tyrone). She married James Duncan, a baker living in Coalisland, Co. Tyrone (b 1823, Glasgow), son of John Duncan, also a baker.  The wedding took place at Brantry Parish Church (Aughnacloy) and one of the witnesses was a William Johnston (brother?). James Duncan obviously soon took over pa-in-laws farm as the 1901 and 1911 census have him as farmer and retired baker, his son James is also a farmer on the same farm (different cottage) whilst his son John is a baker & grocer in Aughnacloy. There is another son Theophilus Henry Duncan a grocer in Caledon. I occasionally go up to Dublin and visit the National Archives, I reckon it has taken me about 10 hours total so far sitting in front of a microfilm viewer to get this information. Not a pleasant task.

My grandmother Mary Eliza Rafferty & her sister Agnes were in Mullers Orphanage in Bristol from 1891 to 1905 and 1901 resp. (given numbers of 8157 & 8158) Said it was OK, food spartan though. You can get copies of admittance records, next of kin, etc. from Mullers for about £25.00.
