Berkshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED Re: 1841 census Sarah Smith please
« on: Monday 26 October 09 22:47 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry, I misread the ages on the 1841 census.  I misread aged 4 for aged 2.  There were two births registered on freebmd for Sarah Smiths in the Reading district in 1837-8 (one aged 3 and one aged 2 at the time of the census) but it seems the one aged 2 either wasn't on the census or was misspelt.  Thanks anyway, Alison.  If Thatcham was where the nearest Sarah aged 2 resided then I think maybe that may not have been the one I am looking for, as Thatcham is 14 miles from Whitley, where the Sarah I am looking for was from.  I knew a name like Sarah Smith would be hard to trace.  Thanks for all your help on here.  I am marking this completed and that will be that with my Smith research.

Sorry to continue this search, but I notice there is a Sarah Smith listed on 1841 census aged 2 (born 1839) living in the Reading district (I don't have a subscription so can't view the record to see the household).  The one aged 3 (born 1838) is the one living with Dennis Smith, but I have a feeling this isn't the Sarah I am looking for.  Smith is such a common name you have to be so specific.  I would be grateful if someone could lookup the one aged 2 in the Reading district to see who she is living with.  Then I will finally give up I promise!

With a name like Smith it doesn't pay to look too far afield!  Thanks for your help Wendy.  I'll mark this strand completed now.

Yes that is annoying that there are two Sarahs.  The censuses can be annoying at times.  Could someone do a lookup for Dennis on 1861 and 1871 please?  He may well be dead by 1861, though I can find no death in Berkshire for him.  Thanks for your help Wendy.

Hi.  Could someone please lookup Sarah Smith aged 12 (born in Whitley, Berkshire) on 1851 Berkshire census.  I would be interested to know her other family members' names/ages.  I'd also be interested in the 1841 and 1861 censuses for the same person if possible.

The Lighter Side / 2005 births marriages deaths

Does anyone know if the indexes to the 2005 England and Wales births marriages and deaths are going to be available online soon?  Currently there are a couple of sites that go up to 2004.  I would have thought 2005 would be available by now.

I think the last entry (William and Mary parents) is the correct one.  It's Sarah's family I am researching.  I've seen the IGI.  That's where I got my information from.  Israel may have died young or have been of a different family.  As you say, he was baptised in a different church.  The others are all correct.  I'm not sure about what William and Mary's ages are though.  1871 census lists Mary Ann Lapish as aged a bit older, but on 1841 the ages are notoriously inaccurate.  Her death in 1874 matches with the 1871 census.  I wonder where the Lapishes were in 1851.
