Liz,
Thanks so much for all your help.  I really appreciate it.  I knew Francis's wife died, and he went to the US, but didn't know when.
Thanks and take care,
Cathy

Sorry you a right.  My post was confusing, the Patrick I was referring to was Patrick Powell-he was Sarah's son, his birth certificate lists him as illegitimate.  And again I should have checked my facts instead of relying on my memory before posting.  Patrick Farrell (who I think is Powell) is in the 1930 census living in New York with Sarah and Anthony.  I was looking for information on Ellen Powell Farrell, I think she was the only one to stay in Scotland.  I was wondering, about any children they may have had.  I did use Scotland's People and I think I found some on the 1911 census.  Thanks for your reply....sorry I wasn't more clear

Yes thanks again.  I lost my mother over a year ago and couldn't make myself do this again until yesterday, so to get such a quick  response was great.  Those are the names of my mother's great uncles and cousins in Port Glasgow -  Alexander, Daniel, and Lachlan.  My grandfather use to go to Rathlin Island with his father to visit family, but my mother never went.  Thanks so much.
Take care,
Cathy

Thank you. I knew what happened to Alexander's other children but wasn't sure about James, just had been told he hadn't left Ireland.
take care,
Cathy

Thanks for your help.  I know a bit about Anthony and Sarah Farrell, but very little about Patrick and Ellen Farrell.  Sarah Powell had a son Patrick Powell (1903) he is listed as illegitimate.  She married Anthony and they have Mary (1907), John James (1908), and Anthony (1909-1971).  Anthony Farrell does very well for himself. He owns a home in New York that for the time period was very expensive.  At least of of his brother in laws worked for him.  When Sarah comes to the US with the children Patrick Powell is not with them.  But he shows up living with the family by the 1920 census, using the name Patrick Farrell.  I know that Anthony dies in New York in 1971, but can't find the other ones yet. On Anthony Farrell's draft registration paper work he lists being from County Mayo.  Thanks again for your help.
Take care,
Cathy

Antrim / McQuilkin family Rathlin Island

Have trace my family from Port Glasgow Scotland to Rathlin Island.  I can not get past Alexander McQuilkin, born in Antrim around 1814. I know he married Mary Graham and they had the following children Ann (1835-1884), James (1839), Daniel  (1841-1877), Jane (1847-1882), Alexander (1849).  I know that Ann, Daniel (my line), and Jane went to Scotland. I believe James stayed in Rathlin Island.  Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Cathy

Hi, I know it has been quite a while since this was posted but still wanted to try and respond.  I am trying to get some information for a friend who is tracing their Powell relatives. I know that James  Powell and Mary Ann Murphy married in Armagh, had Catherine, Mary Ann, Susan, Teresa and Ellen in Armagh.  Then took the family to Motherwell, where they had Francis (my friend's line), Bridget, James and Annie.   I believe all but Ellen immigrated to New York.  Ellen married Patrick Farrell and Sara Powell married Anthony Farrell.  I have found information out for some of the Powells that went to the US, but very little about the ones that stayed in Motherwell.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cathy
