Hi Jane,

I don't know if we have corresponded before.

Alexander and Christian are also my 4 x great grandparents.  Their daughter Margaret who married James Collins in Preston is my 3 x great grandmother.

I have been researching the family for many years.  In fact, I am working on them at the moment.

If you would like to send me your e-mail address, we can discuss them further.

Kind regards,

Anne

Jane,

What is your connection to Alexander Smellie and Christian?

Hi Sheila,

I am not sure of my Comers relationship to Luke, although I have researched this family for many years.  On the 1870 Census in Plains, Luke Comer and his two daughters, who were born in Bilston are living with Mark Comer.  I have been trying to find out if Mark is the brother of my gt. gt. grandfather Patrick Comer, who remained in Bilston, then moved to Lancashire.  Luke's wife Mary McDonough must have died early, because he married Honor Duffy.  A lot of families from Bilston went to Plains including Duddys, Duffys and Comers.

I look forward to receiving the information when you find it.

Kind regards,
Anne

Hi,

This is the information that you want.  The name should be McDonough.  Do you have any information about Comers?

I am researching my Irish Comer family in Bilston.  I know that Mary McDonough married Luke Comer (Kerrigan).  They emigrated to Plains, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

Durham / Re: Fatfield

long time since your post but only just found this site.  My mothers family lived in Fatfield for at least 3 generations and the 1851 Census shows my great great Grandfather Walter Rutherford age 40 and my great grandfather Lancelot Rutherford age 8, along with 4 other family members, living at Fatfield House in the Sub District of Harraton. I am interested to know more about Walter if anyone can help, he was born in Wilington 1811 and a blacksmith by trade.

Do you know what happened to Isabella Rutherford, the sister of Lancelot?  I am looking for my great grandmother Isabella Rutherford, born about 1846 and I am eliminating all the Isabella's who I can find.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: King family in Melling in Lonsdale

I am a new member.  I am also researching the King family in Caton and Melling.

My 4 x great grandfather William King married Sarah Fox in Caton in 1788.  Witness Anthony King.

John King married Alice Leeming at Caton in 1783.  Witness James King.

James King married Grace Thompson at Caton in 1790.  Witness Anthony King.

Anthony King married Isabella Rathmell in Lancaster in 1793.  Witness John King.

I have been researching William King's family for years and thought that my William was born in Burton in Lonsdale, but I have recently found out that this William married someone else.

All the above Kings had a daughter named Ann or Nancy and a son William, so I wondered if this was the name of their parents.

I have just found a baptism for a William King in 1766 to a William and Ann King at Whittington.

I have also found a marriage for a William King and Ann Roach in 1763 at Beetham.  I wonder if these are the parents of Anthony, William, John and James and perhaps Henry of Melling.

Beetham, Whittington, Melling, Hornby and Caton are in the same area.  I visited them yesterday.
