Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Connor family of Magherafelt

Thanks aghadowey.
I think all of your links are on the money.
For info, as far as I can see, John Connor & Jane McGuckian had kids:
Archibald 7 July 1870 (married Minnie Clerkin 3 Feb 1904);
Eliza(beth) 3 Oct 1871 (married Francis McGlade 4 Nov 1894);
Nancy 3 July 1873;
John 3 Mar 1877;
William 5 Feb 1879;
Charles 22 Jan 1881;
Sarah 23 Jan 1882;
Mary Jane 2 May 1884;
Rosanna 26 May 1886 (married James Connolly 3 Aug 1908); &
David 18 Mar 1890.
I'm looking for a link to Belfast and I know that Rosanna was living in Old Lodge Road, Belfast, when she married James Connolly in 1908.
As John (1877) shows in Magherafelt on the 1901 and 1911 census, he's not the Belfast link. That suggests that my Belfast link is either William or Charles or, more likely, a brother of their father John - hence my question - can we identify the siblings of that John.
I'm not great at searching the church records but do you think that might be an avenue?

Derry (Londonderry) / Connor family of Magherafelt
« on: Thursday 10 July 25 15:21 BST (UK)  »
I need to identify my Great grandfather to complete the family tree & hang it on the wall for future generations. DNA leads me to a family in Magherafelt called Connor, later O'Connor.
On 22 Sep 1869, John Connor, a carpenter. married Jane McGuckian.
I'm trying to identify John's siblings. Can anybody help?
The few tenuous only leads I have are:-
1/ On 3 August 1872, David Connor married Alice Stevenson. His marriage cert says his father was John Connor, a carpenter. I guess that David was a brother of John above & that there was a father & son pair of carpenters called John Connor.
2/John, the younger, had a daughter Eliza, born 23 Oct 1871, baptised 24 Oct 1871. Her Godfather was David Connor.
3/ On 5 April 1884, a John Connor, carpenter (married), died aged 73. Present at death was his daughter Margaret O'Connor.

So, can anybody identify brothers or sisters of John Connor, Jane McGuckian's husband?

I found the Baptism of Margaret's mother. She was known as Isabella McGlenon, baptised in Downpatrick 9 May 1856. DNA ties in with her sister Elizabeth who married Patrick Brunton in Belfast. The McGlenon name became McGlinn in Elizabeth's case.

Now for the hard part - find Margaret's father. Relying on DNA. Wish me luck.

Thanks aghadowey & all other contributors.
Thanks especially for the Isabella McGlynn death cert. If you can send it to me that would be fabulous.
One Question at this point. Do you think McGlynn was Isabella's birth name or by marriage?

Could I buy the full Court report somewhere?

Wow. Thanks aghadowey - Court case is news to me.
And Barbour Street makes it our John Patton.

Hi Guys,
My wife's grandmother Margaret McGlynn married John Patton in Belfast on 2 Jan 1922. She died 6 Feb 1979 (in Cork) reportedly aged 81.
My questions are - Where & when was she born & who here her parents?
At the risk of starting with some red herrings, here's what I see:-
A Mgt McGlynn was born in the Belfast Workhouse on 7 July 1898. That Mgt McGlynn had sisters born in the workhouse on 24 October 1887 (Mary & Isabella), 6 June 1890 (Unknown, I think Ann) and maybe 25 May 1886 (Elizabeth, unverified).
Isabella married Edward Clarkin (1905) and Henry Cullinan (1914). A Henry Cullinan was John Patton's best man in 1922. At her 1905 marriage, Isabella said her Dad John was dead.
Ann married Bruce Morton (1913).
In 1920, Mgt had a daughter in Belfast that died at 2 months, Mgt Mary. Per cert, baby's aunt was stated to be Isabella Cullinan.
Q1 - Is my wife's GGM the Mgt born on 7 July 1898?
Q2 - Who were her parents? I've followed some tangled & probably incorrect lines on her mother, also Isabella but I won't confuse anybody by repeating them here.
As for Isabella's husband John, I don't know when he died & he might or might not be the father. I'd like to identify that John McGlynn & then see if any DNA links stack up.
Sincere thanks for any help.

Thanks aghadowey.
I'm trying to identify my wife's great grandparents, to complete a family tree & hang it on the wall.
This thread was about her other grandparents, so that I can narrow down her DNA matches.
I'll put up my core question shortly, hoping that I haven't already imposed too much on your expertise.

Fabulous work guys. Thank you.
The Church record of the baptism of Agnes answers my question about James & Anne having a daughter Agnes. The ages tie in too. Add in the description of her father as a farmer (on her marriage cert) and the later appearance of Charles Caldwell in Richard Patton's census and it all holds together.

I hope I can call on your expertise again when I formulate my next (harder) question.
