Kent / Re: Woolwich, Kent; Church of England nearest to St. Mary Magdalene?
« on: Friday 23 January 15 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
Thread may have gone cold on this but am searching for Abraham ROBERTS. Found the bap record Feb 1794, son of Abraham and Ann ROBERTS, bap St Mary Magdalen BERMONDSEY.

Found a burial at St Mary Magdalen WOOLWICH in Nov 1794. Wondered if this is the same person? If so why bap at Bermondsey and buried at Woolwich as family didn't ever live there as far as I can tell. Anyone know about burial practices in London at this time?

Also does the symbol next to this (and other) entry indicate an infant death?
Scan on web page here https://sites.google.com/site/lazarusrobertshistory/abraham-roberts-junior/abraham-and-ann-s-children/abraham-roberts

Thanks

I am interested in this couple: Henry Grant HORSWILL and Ann ROBERTS, in particular Ann (born circa 1799, London Surrey). Does anyone know if her parents are mentioned at their marriage in 1822? I think she may have been my ggg.grandfather's sister.

Cheers
Rob

Pembrokeshire / Re: John James, Mariner, Blenheim/Great Eastern Shipping Accident

Hi, I'm interested in the Blenheim. I have an Alfred George ROBERTS (b.1841) who served as a clerk on this ship, 18 May 1864 – 18 September 1864. His naval record ends here with the comment  ‘D?[ischarged?] Service own reqt 12 Sept 64 to avoid court martial’. I'd like to know what he did to be discharged like this. Wondered if you had any clues? I've searched through The Times and 19thC papers online but can only find the appointment of Edward S. Peach as clerk to the Blenheim, 14 September 1864. No ref to Roberts.
