Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Request to View Original of Parish Register
« on: Monday 10 February 20 08:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to rosie99:

Thank you for raising this point, forgot to consider this fact.

I will attach a note to Lawrence Abbott's profile on my family tree on Ancestry with the information you have given stating they are 'Speculative' parents. I hope this is not considered an indiscretion.
Unfortunately I cannot afford the services of a professional genealogist.

Re the Wills:  I find out from the Canterbury Probate website whether an ancestor or likely ancestor has a will.
I download wills at an LDS Family History Centre for free.
It is possible to set up a free account on their family search website.  Click on Search, Catalogue, Titles then type England, Kent, Wills and Probate, 1440-1881 then click on this and a list of available sources of information appears.

Wishing you luck in your research.

Hello to bearcat:

Thank you for replying and for the information.
Lawrence Abbott had 4 sons, none of them called Nicholas. Therefore I think it doubtful he would be the son of Nicholas and Jane. His sons' names were Charles, Thomas, William and John.

For wills I use the free website Canterbury Probate Records (1396-1858) Database. Just google these words and it will appear. I recommend this site.

Kent Lookup Requests / Request to View Original of Parish Register
« on: Wednesday 05 February 20 07:20 GMT (UK)  »
My 10th great grandfather was LAWRENCE ABBOTT.
I am assuming that he is the Lawrence Abbott baptised 25 Nov 1563 STELLING MINNIS, St Mary The Virgin.
No parents names are given.
I located this information on the website Hastingleigh.com Home Page.

The original parish register for Stelling Minnis is at Canterbury Cathedral Archives.
I am hoping that his parent's name/s might be written in the margins of even on the back of the original document.

With thanks

Hello to Tyke and any others interested:

EDMUNDSONS OF HEYSHAM, LANCASHIRE

I was very interested to read your posting about the Greystoke, Cumberland 1500s origins of the Edmondsons.

My 6th great grandmother was Mary Edmundson born abt 1693 Heysham, Lancs. She married Christopher Stephenson 27 Mar 1716 St Peter's, Heysham. She was buried 1 Nov 1754 Heysham.

She was the daughter of Richard Edmundson. Richard was born 16 Mar 1663/64 Heysham, baptised 20 Mar 1663/64 Heysham, the son of Edmond Edmundson and Mary Unknown.
He married Deborah Edmundson 5 Feb 1687 St Peters, Heysham. He died 3 Sep 1742 Heysham, buried 5 Sep 1742 Heysham.

Deborah Edmundson was born 31 Jul 1666 Heysham baptised 5 Aug 1666 St Peters, Heysham. She died Sep 1723, buried 5 Sep 1723 St Peters, Heysham.

Richard Edmundson (1663-1742) left a Will which mentions his daughter Mary Stephenson and her children in birth order.
An original copy and transcript is attached to his profile on my family tree on Ancestry called Margaret Irvine Family Tree

His father Edmond Edmundson was buried 8 Jan 1702 St Peters, Heysham.
His wife Mary - burial 26 Dec 1687 St Peters, Heysham.

Edmond Edmundson and Mary also had a son John Edmundson (1660-1675) bapt and buried at St Peters, Heysham.

Deborah Edmundson (1666-1723) was the daughter of Robert Edmundson and Jenett Clifton.

Robert Edmundson and Jenett Clifton married 15 Nov 1659 St Peters, Heysham.
Robert's burial 25 Jan 1680/81 St Peter's, Heysham.
Jenett's burial 24 Aug 1693 St Peter's, Heysham.

Richard and Deborah Edmundson had in total 7 children all baptised St Peter's, Heysham.

They lived at White Lund Farm, Heaton with Oxfliffe.  Source:  The Dated Buildings of South Lonsdale by Emmeline Garnett.

Please Note:   There are two entries on my family tree on Ancestry for Richard Edmundson (1663-1742), one of which does not contain will  details.  This tree is called Margaret Irvine Family Tree and is publicly accessible.

Lancashire / Re: SEDDON AND HAWORTH

Hello to hanes teulu and anyone else interested:

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I have utilised this great website and found it indispensable in compiling my family tree on Ancestry. Your suggestion prompted me to take another look.

In the 1851 Census Mary Seddon (formerly Haworth) is recorded as born about 1803 Lostock which I omitted to mention.

I found a baptism 31 Mar 1804 St Mary the Virgin, Deane of Mary Howarth daughter of Thomas Howarth and Betty   Abode:  Lostock

Also a marriage 9 July 1799 St Mary the Virgin, Deane of Thomas Howarth (X) batchlr Bolton parish and Betty Marsh (X) sp this parish [Deane]  They had 7 children.

Peter and Mary's only daughter was called Mary Jane Seddon which seems unusual. I thought any daughter born would be called after the maternal grandmother, although I expect this is not always the case.

Have you heard of the Lancashire Will Search website. Just google Lancashire Will Search. It is a free site and gives details of films that can be accessed. I have uploaded the wills of many Lancashire ancestors by accessing the films at a LDS Church Family History Centre.

Fermanagh / MARGARET MOFFAT of DERRYVULLAN
« on: Monday 27 January 20 04:18 GMT (UK)  »
My second great grandmother was MARGARET MOFFAT of Derryvullan, Fermanagh.
She married WILLIAM IRVINE on 11 May 1821 at St Mary's, Ardess, Magheraculmoney Parish, Fermanagh.

I would like to be able to trace her forebears if possible.
