Dorset / Elizabeth (Bessie) Brown, born 1646 in Loders, Dorset
« on: Monday 27 October 25 01:05 GMT (UK)  »
My research on this lady shows she was born in Loders in 1650, daughter of a Nicholas Browne. Quite a lot of Ancestry members have found another Elizabeth Browne, born in Studland in 1646, daughter of John Browne and Susan Foster, and have used her as the wife of a Thomas Crafford born in 1646 in Loders. This has led to an Ancestry  page under 'Genealogical Records > Search Results' which shows her as the mother of a Thomas Crawford born in Loders in 1666 and a Mary Crawford born in Bishop Stortford, Herefordshire in 1665. The Elizabeth Browne who married Thomas Crafford in Loders - in 1669 - had seven children born in Loders between 1672 and 1687. If you are looking for the wife of Thomas Crafford, born in Loders in 1646, DO NOT BELIEVE THIS RECORD. It also shows she died in Brigtoundyke in Scotland. The record I found for this death, shows a Bessie Crawford, who married a Thomas Quhyte, but she died in 1662. Whoever found this, didn't read when she died, and just added it to his tree on Elizabeth Browne born in Loders. As shown on this record, 77 other researchers also added this to their trees. I found more the 300 trees showing this record from Ancestry, so they are adamant this is correct, because Ancestry says so. IF you do your research diligently, then you will find everything on this record is incorrect. IF you find this page, please read the 'Info' tag at the top. It tells you Ancestry uses Ancestry trees to create this record, not church records, so if the trees are incorrect, SO IS THIS PAGE

Hi Alison,
 :)
I'm doing the same - hunting down Abraham and his antecedents. I've got records of his marriage and death, but not his birth. He may have been born a Crawford, Crayford, Crawforth or Crawforthe.

Did you have any success in the last four years?

Graham Crawford, Adelaide

Lincolnshire / Re: Glanford Brigg burial sites
« on: Wednesday 27 November 13 03:26 GMT (UK)  »
G'day.  I have just discovered that a 'lost' ancestor died in Glanford Brigg (and not where my records said he had).  Does anyone have a record of burial sites in the town - or first prize would be transcripts of headstone data.  My ancestor in question is Alfred Benjamin Harris.  Died August 1928.  Also, I would be REALLY interested to know if he had a Rev. in front of his name.  Any help would be gratefully received.
yeh.. G'day from Australia...I've been researching Crawford ancestry, and I think I've worked out "Glanford Brigg" - it's where the RECORDS were kept of burials in the last 300 odd years, for the northern part of Lincolnshire, not the actual church or graveyard. (It's now called just "Brigg", but it's still where all surrounding parishes send their info on hatches, matches and dispatches). Can anyone verify that?
