Lanarkshire / Re: Beecrofts in Blantyre

Hi Jennifer - nice to hear from you and thanks for posting. From what I have been able to research over the years there is only one Beecroft family in Scotland. I remember chatting to my grandmother Margaret Martin (nee Beecroft) in the mid 1970s who told me some of the family history and that inspired me to do some more research. Isaiah Beecroft was born around 1808 in Yorkshire I believe and the family then moved to Scotland. He was indeed a Stocking Weaver. His wife was Margaret Douglas and she was from Hawick. He died in Perth in 1887. There have been at least 2 other Isaiah Beecrofts in the family. Best wishes. Martin

Buckinghamshire / PERCIVAL/PERCIFUL(L) Family of North Crawley, Bucks
« on: Tuesday 06 June 06 21:20 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandfather was William Percival born in North Crawley around 1840. His son was Walter Eli Percival and was born in the same village in 1863. By 1868 the family had moved to the North London area and were employed in building the railways. If anyone has any information on the Percivals / Percifulls / Percifuls (the name gets spelled in many ways on the census etc) from North Crawley please do get in touch. There were 3 Percivals who served in the forces as recently as WW2 from the village but the last of the family do seem to now have left the area. Martin Percival

Lanarkshire / Beecrofts in Blantyre
« on: Sunday 24 July 05 23:17 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather, John Beecroft, was born in Kilsyth in 1865, son of James Beecroft who was born in Hawick in c. 1844 and Sarah McNeil who were married in Glasgow in 1863. John Beecroft married Margaret Kilpatrick in July 1887 in Blantyre. By 1901 they had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls.

John Beecroft's family moved to Lesmahagow in the 1900s and later Bo'ness, probably just before WW1. They were a mining family.

However John, the eldest, had several brothers and sisters according to the 1881 census -  Elizabeth born c.1868, Cecilia born c.1872, Isaiah born c.1874, Mary born c.1875 and James born c.1878. I'd like to try to obtain more information on them.

Anyone with information on the Beecrofts who stayed in Blantyre and the family in general please get in touch.

Martin
