Tidybooks! wow! Thanks so much  ;D

It's great to see the other parts of the family. That makes me really wonder about Catherine now. Where on earth could she have got to? Thanks for researching it for me

Dear Helen,

I was very excited to get your message about my MacLeod family. I don't think there is any doubt that we are related. Thomas Syme MacLeod, Sr. is my great great great grandfather.  His son John became my great great grandfather and his daughter, Clara Charlotte became my great grandmother.
Today, once I found the notes I copied down, I remembered a conversation with  my grandmother about the identity of some people in her photo album she related she couldn't recall who was who. She knew the name of the mother but not which girl was which. She could recall, however,  that there were three girls and three boys. One had the name of Meredith MacLeod.  I'll send you a private message asking if all the names are right. Then we'll know for sure. I don't want to send more publically as I don't know if it's okay with you.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Fraisthorpe Carnaby Scott

No one ever found any information on Mary's husband other than his name: Robert Scott. He could have been a sailor or militia. I'd always assumed a servant but trying to find a Robert Scott is like trying to find a John Smith, nigh impossible.

Not only is HE missing but a sister to Agness--Mary. I guess that maybe some assumptions were done on our family historian's part about survival to adulthood or maybe she is in service somewhere. A long winding twisted path but always with hopes to whoop with glee when a missing link is found :)

Thanks for looking over my request again, Ticker. I had a little luck with 1851 but of course just under Agness. Yes I'm always looking for more information! Thanks for the concern  :)

Thanks SO much oly! That's something I've never seen (1841 Census). This is most certainly her!
The reason I call her Saint Agnes is because that is her christened name on the IGI. And even before I knew about the IGI, I think my family researching cousin had her marriage certificate which said the same. In censi she never appears as "Saint Agnes" though. Curious, eh? Guess it was too much of a mouthful for every day.

Thanks again.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Syme/McLeod Census 1851

I'm on the hunt for my ancestress and her two sons. I was wondering if someone could see if they are in the 1851 census

Catharine McLeod (nee Syme) was widowed in 1844 and returned to her family home of Northfield House, Prestonpans. At the time her brother, George Syme, should have been owner of the said House. Her two sons may or may not be visible in this census as well depending on their schooling. Murdoch McLeod, born Dec 1833, and his younger brother Thomas Syme McLeod, born Dec 1837.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me track down these elusive ancestors. Much thanks to my benefactors

Thanks,

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Census 1841 McLeod

I'm on the hunt for one of my ancestors and ancestresses who are proving very elusive. Finding their ages in nigh impossible but I'm hoping that someone could kindly look for them in the Liverpool census of 1841.

This much I know:

Her name is Catharine McLeod (MacLeod?) of, possibly, Edinburgh. Her husband was mentioned as a someone who went to sea so may or may not be there during the census. His name is John McLeod (MacLeod?). In their marriage registry (Feb 1831) he is called a merchant of Glasgow (not sure if this means he was born there). At this time ~1841~ they would have had two sons: Murdoch (b 1833) and Thomas S. (b 1837), both born in Liverpool.

I am very thankful to my future benefactors for tracking this down. This could help me immensly on my search.

Thanks

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: Stoke Poges/Hill 1851 Lookup

Oh you angel!

Thank you! This is them exactly. Actually, that only four boys shows up on the census is perfect because that realllly connects them. Since one of the boys was said to be born in 1852 by the 1861 census. Good to know where the father was originally born. Already starting to search the IGIs for him in Chesham now.
Oooh...  now the mystery is deeper. I wonder what happened to the parents. Again, THank  you ever so much!

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Stoke Poges/Hill 1851 Lookup
« on: Saturday 30 July 05 18:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

I am looking for parents of the five Hill boys of Stoke Poges, James, George, Henry, Charles, Joseph. Their parents, Joseph and Jane Hill, disappear from the record by 1861 and appear to have died. This left the boys paupered in the Workhouse or off to find work/apprenticing of their own by the 1861 census.

I am hoping someone could lookup on the 1851 census to see if Joseph and Jane Hill are living in Stoke Poges  or, if they were even dead by then, if evidence of the five boys can be seen.  Jane, according to the skimpy Stoke Poges records, seems to have been born in 1819, if that helps.

Much thanks to my benefactor.

The Lighter Side / Re: WHAT WAS THE SADDEST DEATH IN YOUR TREE?
« on: Monday 25 July 05 17:54 BST (UK)  »
There are a number of deaths that I have found sad in my family tree. There have been falling downs in elevator shafts and falling head first into the mud while well digging but I think the most tragic is the story of my grandfather's brother. Back in the teens of the 20th C. his family was headed off in their car, mother holding her little baby Freddy in her arms. While nearing train tracks the car was jolted and baby Freddy flew from mother's arms on to the train tracks. A train was actually coming! Before they could reach the baby, he was crushed by the train.   *sigh*  Tragic! :o I guess my great grandmother was inconsolible because my grandfather was born a little while later, christened by the same name and apparently spoiled rotten as a baby (which was something since they were apparently very poor).

Oooh.. I just looked at the above entry and didn't even realize there was another train tragedy until now!
