Wow Bookbox that is amazing many thanks - I have found them on Ancestry to look at now although how you found them initially is unbelievable I wouldn't know where to start ??

Carol,  I cant find what happened to Polly afterwards either but will carry on I will try and dig out the birth Certificate for William Junior - I have got his marriage Cert and it States on there that his father was indeed William George Alcock a Labourer (not shown deceased) although spouse father shown deceased so possibly still Alive ?? But I am thinking seems more likely to be a made up name to save face like you said ? Cant find the christening records for Polly or George either but will persevere

Again Tonnes of thanks

Becky

Hi thanks for your replies, all I know was that he was supposedly mentioned in the newspaper because of some petty crime when he was aged about 10 I think so will have been about 1881??? - its hearsay ... he lived at the time on Flower and Dean Street, which I gather was rather a notorious place, I have tried searching to no avail so far.

Thanks

Becky.

Hi, if anyone can help I would appreciate it immensely - seem to have hit a big Brick Wall..

My 2 x GGrandfather William Alcock was born 5th December 1871 on Birth certificate just gives the mothers name as Mary Alcock and living at Flower and Dean Street, she being a comb seller. There is no fathers name apparently.

I have found a baptism on 31st December where it read William was the son of William and Mary living at 34 Flower and Dean Street and William is shown as a Labourer.

William Jr went on to Marry Rose Ann Addlesea Ward in 1899 and later shown on the census as living in Lincoln with his wife and children , However I can find no information between him being born and married - nor can I trace his parentage at all .. Very frustrating ..

I have seen snippets of census but nothing complete that seems to add up or give me any further info , I have been told there may be info on the British newspaper archive however I don't have access :-(

Any help would be very much appreciated ... Spent hours trawling online !!

Many Thanks

Becky ;)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Webb / Rowling Family Help Request Please
« on: Thursday 15 August 13 16:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been trying for months to find any further information on my 4x Great Grandfather but have got totally stuck

Thomas Webb Born est 1794 in Wickhambrook Believe his wife was Susan Rowling b est 1806 they married in 1824.

I have found Thomas on 1841 Census with 7 Children he is then on the 1851 Census with 4 Children and no Susan although I have so far been unable to find any record of her death. 1861 Census I cannot find Thomas again ?? and then he appears on 1871 - living with his son. I have so far found no record of his death and no info at all on either his parents or parents of my 4x gt grandmother Susan  :-\ :-\ I have got a lot further on other sides of my tree and cannot seem to get past these missing bits so its driving me insane !!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Becky. :)

Polarbear, Many thanks for your reply.

Yes the photo of him in a Naval Uniform is another long story !! He is 15 in that picture, I found on the back of his Birth Certificate a Factory and Workshop Act Giving permission for him to "Labour" on the "Wellesley Training Ship" Tynemouth in England .. I believe that this was some kind of "borstal" for young boys and he spent time there in October 1918 the records of which I need to research further .. He then went on to serve in the Army as a Bandsman/Musician I believe when he returned from Canada

I am coming to the same conclusion that this "Tree" on Ancestry is indeed a red herring , however it is frustrating to say the least when you dont get any reply especially when there is a picture clearly posted which is most definately my Great Grandfather as we have the photo in our family
collection ...

Kind Regards
Becky

How intriguing ... I have also checked those lists and cannot find any such "marriage" as the person on ancestry seems not to reply I am stumped .. However she seems to have attached a family photo I have in our Collection of him, so seems to think that he is the same person ..

I found him on the passenger list for the Baltic sailing from England Arriving Nova Scotia 30th March 1930.

Checking the record further it states the following
Webb Arthur E Aged 26 Years. Born Mildenhall England.  Insurance Agent Farming. Employer Canadian National Railways.  To Follow Wife Edith (25) Son Raymond (9Months) 112 Albert View,

The story goes that Edith became ill in England and she contacted the Salvation Army to try and contact her husband telling him to return home (if that is true I am unable to confirm) He returned on HMS Laurentic arriving back in England 7th February 1933.

The confusion has been caused by this "other" tree and the picture which is attached .. any light shed on the matter is greatly appreciated and I thank you for spending the time to check the lists .. Maybe he used a different name - or indeed no such marriage took place. Maybe we will  never know!

Thanks Becky.
