My name is Russel Abbott and i am the son of Robert Abbott who now owns Crag Pit Farm, Tattingstone. Our family has owned this farm since 1944.
I read your story and would like to inform you that no2 Crag Pit Cott still stands next to no3 on the south side of the White Horse Public House south of the Alton water resevoir. My aunty is the owner of this cottage. This is next to the old A137 which used to run north from Crag Pit Cott to Ipswich and south to Manningtree.
The water your Grandma refers to back in the war was an old stream that ran from the east to the west through the valley. This was submerged along with Crag Pit Cott no1 by Alton water resevoir which was put through in the 70's. My father Robert would know the exact date.
If you would you be interested in a visit please e.mail me.
With thanks
