Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Merritt family of Wymering/Widley Hampshire

Thanks for that information. It doesn’t seem likely as their first child was christened at Widley in August 1806 but I will keep a note of it just in case. Thank you for your help.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Merritt family of Wymering/Widley Hampshire
« on: Friday 08 March 19 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a marriage for Thomas Merrett to Sarah around 1805/6. Thomas’s 1st wife Elizabeth Wallis died 1802 Wymering. Thomas & Sarah had several children christened at Widley & Wymering with the surname Merrett between 1806 & 1825. Thomas was buried 1827 Wymering. I have found some useful information on the knightsroot site but unfortunately it does not cover marriages for this period. The eldest son George christened at Widley 17 Aug 1806 marries in 1849 using the surname Wallace Merrett, two of the daughters marry on the same day at Portsea in 1841 one using the surname Wallace Merrett and the other using the surname Wallace. Both give there father as Thomas. In 1847 the youngest daughter Louisa marries at Portsea using the surname Wallace, father Thomas. Very confusing. It could be that Sarah was also a Wallis/Wallace and/or that Thomas never married her. If anyone has access to the marriage records for Widley/Wymering I would be grateful and it would help a lot to know if there was ever a marriage.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: George Dunford abt 1813 Great Bedwyn

Hi Tazzie, yes that is the one. He married Ann Claridge in Oxford. From there on is clear. It is his baptism I need and confirmation that he had an older brother John. As you know records from Wiltshire are only now dribbling into circulation. It would be good to have confirmation that he was baptised at Great Bedwyn and when. I believe there was a note on his baptism to say he was born at Wilton which is a nearby hamlet. If you can find a recording of the baptism then I can try to get a copy of the church register.  Regards, Sylvia

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: John Reeve of Peasmarsh

John's eldest son was named John Adams Reeve so I think Matthew marrying Sarah Adams at Udimore are John's parents. Thank you very much for all that information. Do you think that it would help my research if I joined the Sussex FHS? I need to do my research online and it says that members can look at records that way.

Sussex Lookup Requests / John Reeve of Peasmarsh
« on: Sunday 05 February 17 12:46 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a John Reeve christening. In 1838 he married Martha Banister at Ebony Chapel, Kent both residents of Ebony. Both fathers are just entered as deceased with no names or professions. In 1841 he is living at Main Street, Peasmarsh with wife Martha and 2 children. John died in Rye (no address given) in 1847 age 38 and his profession recorded as 'farmer'.  In 2002 a baptism came up on Family Search for John Reeves christened on 5 Jul 1810 at Peasmarsh, parents Matthew and Sarah, but this no longer appears. The poll books for 1820 show a Matthew Reeve of Hastings owning land at Peasmarsh. Other than that I have found nothing online to help. Would you be able to confirm whether this christening exists and where I can find other records online to help me.
Regards

Thanks for all that, it's certainly building up a lot of information to explore. Somewhere it said Alfred Blowes was known as Dickie so perhaps that's where the son of Richard comes from in George's obit. The Dellar surname is interesting as James' uncle William had a son b. 1849 at Lambeth, Surrey called Edward Deller Steppings. His mother's maiden name was Guilford so I don't know where the name came from. He joined the army, married in Ireland and had a son b. 1877 in India called William Deller Steppings. Edward died 1898 in Camberwell, Surrey and William was married and living in Gloucestershire in 1911. I'll do some exploring to see if there is a connection.
